Avalanche in Turkey wipes out rescue team; 38 dead overall

I don’t know bro but I have never heard before of such a situation where 5 pie die of an avalanche and then 35 more people from the rescue team die while saving them. The rescue team was apparently mostly consisted of guys from the Gendarmerie, local village guards and civilian people from the region so who knows what kind of precautions they took and if they even took any.

Shouldn’t they secure the area they will work on first?
There is literally nothing you can do to secure an avalanche area, have you seen how their heavy equipment got thrown around like toys? Avalanche is nothing to be taken lightly.
You could take pre-emptive measures by installing barriers on danger zones but thats nothing you can do prior to a rescue mission in short term.

These people died while trying to save others, they are heroes, lets not use their death for politics.

I don’t know how it is in Iran or Turkey but in Bulgaria you have an agency that is part of the Red Cross named Mountain Rescue Service whose job is exactly to deal with avalanches or lost tourists in the mountain etc. There are experts that only from the snow cover and the layers of snow can tell you if in a certain area there is a danger of an avalanche and if it’s safe. There are special rescue teams that are prepared to work in mountain conditions etc. There is a big difference between professionals whose job is exactly to work in such conditions and soldiers and civilians who were sent/went to an area and probably don’t even have an idea about mountain safety and how to deal with such situations.

ps A very simple way to get rid of a potential avalanche is to throw a bomb on the mountain and make the snow go down safely. It sounds stupid but that’s what Mountain Rangers do in many countries.

and put another layer of snow and ice over the ones who are trapped there , potentially made the layer of snow they are trapped there to move again and shred them to pieces (not very nice have you heard the word "death by a thousand cut") you can made artificial avalanches but not when somebody is trapped there .

to be honest i rather for summer to come and thaw the bodies out to use your artificial avalanche suggestion and then send somebody to collect the pieces of the bodies with tweezers

Lets check the topography of Bulgaria and Van.

What you call a mountain in Bulgaria is probably a valley in Van province, not to mention the amount of snow fall.
And your idea of creating a second avalanche is the last thing you wanna do on a rescue mission.
The professionals of AFAD are trained and equipped well, probably way better than their Bulgarian collegues.

Our people are very emotional. Turkish rescue team handled this disaster very poorly. But it is in our nature to help people so I don't blame them.

I have been working with major security companies, and the first thing they teach you is to never risk your life trying to save anyone. It sounds selfish, but the idea is that if you put yourself in danger, you might get hurt or worse, you might die, and then, you wont be able to help anyone.

Even worse is that you will also waste important resources when other people have to get involved to save you. You only create a chain reaction. But we are not cold hearted people, it is in out nature to help people when we see they are in danger.

We saw how good they are trained and equipped.
