Austria passes legislation banning use of face veils, distribution of Qur'an

All that hollow talk of freedom, liberty, freedom of expression, what a sad place this world is, but It really needed "ISLAM" to expose those falsely propagated myths and lies, there are no freedoms it has always been "Our (satanic) way or highway"

.
China never claims to be champion of human rights, liberty, and freedom of expression.

China too has banned the face veil, and you can get arrested for merely quoting the verses from the Quran on the internet. Why this selective outrage :undecided:

Muslim woman in China's troubled northwestern region of Xinjiang has been arrested for posting passages from the Quran and other religious material on social media.

The 26-year-old woman from the Muslim-majority Uighur ethnic group was detained in the city of Korla this week on charges of spreading "extremist religious thought", Radio Free Asia reported.

"There is extremist religious content that you're not allowed to repost, and she reposted it; she reposted that kind of thing many times," an employee at a government-backed extremism watchdog told the media outlet.

They added that posting quotations from the Quran or about God was "against the law".

The far-western region is the homeland of the Uighurs - a Turkic-speaking group, many of whom complain of cultural and religious repression and discrimination - and is often hit by deadly unrest.

Last month, Chinese authorities released a list of dozens of banned baby names as part of a crackdown on "extremism".

The banned names include Islam, Quran, Jihad, Hajj, Mecca and Medina – although a full list has not yet been published.

Earlier this year, authorities in Xinjiang announced a ban on beards and burqas, saying growing "abnormal" facial hair or wearing robes that cover the whole body and face were now prohibited.

When has Austria or Italy for that matter claimed to be champion of human rights?

Also do you allow us the right to change in aspects where we were obviously wrong?

What if i say you that i was wrong about human rights, liberty and freedom of expression? That we need to cull it, because its dangerous for us.

Do you grant us the right to correct our mistake?

.
No we don't, let's talk about India and it's claim of worlds largest democracy, lets talk about gross abuse of human rights in India and suppression of basic human rights. The real problem with india is that its 1.3 billion lunatic ignorants are focussed on pointing fingers at the world and never looking at its internal problem for once. spent 10 minutes a month focussing on you internal problems and you might fix some basic issues, like not using streets as open air toilets

But Pakistan does claim to be the champion of Islamic rights, why this selective outrage?

Just focus on the red part and read it thrice and think that it applies to everyone, just like Islamic values do not suite you, western values have no place in other parts of the world but for the last 80 odd years west has been busy shoving that down everyone's throat. All that liberty, freedom of choice and freedom of expression reflect western values, but you realized that now because west is at the receiving end of eastern/Islamic values.

The Austrian government passed legislation on Tuesday, outlawing the use of garments that fully cover the face of women, such as the burqa, as well as the distribution of the Holy Qur'an in public.

The provision is part of a larger integration law, work on which was not blocked despite recent instability in the ruling coalition that means parliamentary elections have been pulled ahead a year, to October.

Starting in October, people wearing garments in public that cover a woman's face will be subject to fines of 150 euros (166 dollars).

It is not clear how many people would be affected by the measure. It has received criticism from both political extremes, in some cases for not being tough enough.

Other parts of the legislative package prohibit distributing the Qur'an and require all migrants in Austria to participate in an integration year during which they would learn German and ethics. That measure is targeted at refugees and asylum seekers viewed as having a good chance at remaining in Austria.

Asylum seekers would also be expected to perform unpaid public work. Anyone refusing to do so would lose out on benefits. The proposal is allegedly designed to make migrants better suited for the Austrian labor market.

In Austria, Islam is the second most widely professed religion, practiced by 7 percent of the population or around 600,000 people, according to the Islamic Religious Community.

The country has been spared the kind of extremist attacks suffered by Germany, France and Belgium. But fears and tensions have been growing over the past months, fuelled by anti-migrant campaigns of the popular right-wing Freedom Party (FPO).

France, which has the largest Muslim minority in Europe, estimated at 5 million, in 2010 introduced a ban on full-face niqab and burqa veils in public.

Couldn't care less about the face veil, but how do you enforce a public ban of the Qu'ran? Anyone care to explain?

Yup. When you stand there and want hand out Quran, people call police. Police comes, asks you to leave, confiscates your books and hands out a fine. Thats how its enforced.

.
No it cant. We have the absolute scientific and technological superiority in evry field.

If shit hits the fan all that it would take is a recombinant virus. So i see this relative relaxed.
The ocean,s always quiet before the storm hits leaves only marks behind.as for your technology, look at USA.they have failed to conquer taliban in afghanistan(Pity) with all their battle tech.how do YOU expect it to cover your rares?

.
Banning a book ? what purpose it will serve anyway ? Freedom my foot .. but still i like Austria :smitten:
They who hold power ultimately want to ban the book. They will start with banning in public.

Hmmm that seems overly strict. If you want to control Islam that much you could honestly see to China's policy. Which has government approved imams and iicrc approved translations of the Quran. Granted, that's really over stepping boundaries.

Their country, their rules!! If someone doesn't like it please don't visit there. Moreover i believe public distribution of all the religious books should be banned at all the places. Too much of religion = extremism/hatred=trouble!!

I believe we can do in our countries what we want.

Im sick off it. Do we have those problems with Buddhism? Shinto?

We waste way too much rescources in this issue. People are fed up with it.

While as they say, your country, your rules. But, there is a certain standard Europeans are held on to. You certainly can't overstep your boundaries.

Islam and Christianity, the Middle East and Europe have a special relationship with each other throughout history. You cannot expect these same kinds of interaction with Buddhism and Shintoism.

Its a relationship with only negative results. One of the results was seen yesterday in Manchester.

We have no boundaries. Standards change over time.

Except, we weren't discussing the death penalty, were we? You made claims about human rights versus prosperity ad security. Plus, your article only deals with respondents in France and the UK, which is hardly all of Europe. Any evidence you provide should be comparative in nature, and comprehensive, as one part of Europe isn't necessarily the same as another (and you claim it is).

UK abolished capital punishment in 1964, France only in 1981 (although practised only to 1977). In Germany, is has been forbidden since the new constitution of 1949 (for obvious reasons ;-). Indeed, most of Europe - indeed of the world - has abandoned capital punishment. 'We' did this of course because the majority of people in all our countries were in favor of capital punishment.
