It's going to take a lot more than America and Arsetraya to do it. You know, I'm glad Arsetraya decided to put itself in the firing line - if it had a lick of sense, it would have stayed out of this. It doesn't, so China's going to castrate it along with America; maybe then it'll learn some manners.

Late 2030s, that's too late, at least 15 years away. China is expected to be in parity with the US in military tech by then.

Those are for gap plugging, RAN planned to retire the Collion Class by 2030, they are like the FA-18 and EA-18G we got waiting on F-35 to deliver. RAN would need stop gap Submarine in between 2030-2040 when the new Attack Class goes in service (They cancelled the Attack Class but I will just call it that anyway) New Attack class would be either Enhanced Virginia (or whatever come out of the SSX project from the US) or a new boat that match that quality with both US and UK tech.

Australia is buying 12 boat with the attack Class project, not 5 boats Not sure if this is part of that deal (so 5 out of 12 is off the shelve Virginia) or this is something else, or US may even offer to buy back those boat once the new Attack class are in service.

I don't know why Australia didn't lease American nuclear subs. Even 10 year old subs will do more good than what they have at the moment, which is nothing
