Featured Australia tells U.S. it has no intention of injuring important China ties

Most of the backtracking (by philippines , Australia,Europe) is happening after India did not respond well to clear cut hostilities by China on border.
Perhaps China is reaping rich milage out of moving Forces towards Indian border.
Most of the west and allies were counting on India to give China a hard time on their behalf and they themselves troubling from SCS. For now, plan doesn't seems to be working although bits too early to say, these things takes years and years to bear fruits.

Two significant events happened in the past two months:

(1) India defeated in Eastern Ladakh

- Nepal turned against India

- Bangladesh turned against India

- Bhutan turned against India

(2) US Navy failed to wrest Scarborough Shoal from China in month long exercises in the South China Sea

- Philippines turned against US

- Australia refused to bandwagon with US

- Vietnam taking cautious approach to US

In response, China is racing to parity with our nuclear arsenal. We are no longer hiding it. We are a P5 UN Security Council superpower with more than 1000 strategic nuclear warheads.

Even if so, China would still much rather have Australia on its side or at least in the middle. Foreign policy, executed correctly, should be to win over neutral countries or decrease hostilities with enemies. Both the US and China imo have not done this ... the numerous threats issued to smaller countries simply does not help either side's cause, which is why no one wants to be on one side.

Australia has pursued a hostile policy against China on its own.

As much sense as your sentiment makes, trying to sway any 5 eye countries are a lost cause. Australia is not a small country and China's actions against it will not be seen as such, especially when it was Australia who took the initiative in poisoning the relationship.

Eventually, we build our military to the point where it gets bigger and bigger. Then we go all out and race to parity with our warhead count to match USA and Russia. Now we have more than 1000 strategic warheads.

All of a sudden, we are no longer a shupa powa. We are a real superpower! Nobody wants to mess with a country armed to the teeth with nuclear warheads.

Only way for China to survive is to have a military and nukes twice the size of the US because it is being ganged up on by the massive western alliance.

There is a massive shift in people's mind here. Australia's largest trading partner is China and people have been very vocal about their govt's stance in following US and hurting Australian economic interests. Also people have already concluded that China will replace the US and be the next Super Power.

Everyone was hoping that India could give a decent fight to China.

But India failed miserably and surrendered pathetically to China.

This has created second thoughts in some of these countries.
