At least five killed, two dozen injured in Gilgit violence

shame on you you are just twisting my words. I dont care Waheeda Shah is sunni or shia. Or about Zardari/Nawaz Sharif/Altaf. They can be either sunni or shia. Majority of pakistanis dont care about them. These are just by birth muslims and noting else.

just google these Sanahe Kohistan, Mastong attack, Parachinar. Not ordinary sunnis are doing this. These are the terrorists of SSP, Jundullah. and you probably support them.

SSP, LJ, Jandullah are the same people who call shias kafir. and think by killing one shia they can go to heaven. However shias never said any sect of muslim kafir. You cannot hide the facts.

9 passengers are taken off the buses by armed terrorists (SSP/Jandullah) and brutally muredered today. Shia passengers were identified first, then taken off the bus from gilgit to pindi. similar incident happened about a month ago.

Status Update- Death Count Up to 10 -- 40 injured..

Army deployed in Gilgit as violence leaves 10 dead, 40 injured | Pakistan | DAWN.COM

GILGIT:At least 10 people were killed and another 40 were injured in clashes following a hand grenade attack in the northern Pakistani city of Gilgit on Tuesday.

The attacks led to an army takeover and curfew in the city, confining the inhabitants to their homes, as the situation turned violent.

The violence spread to Chilas as enraged mob killed four persons and torched four vehicles.

A large number of police and security forces arrived at the scene, while people injured in different firing incidents were shifted to District Headquarter Hospital.

Pakistan Army has been deployed to control the situation of the area.

Local administration has issued orders for the closure of all the government, non-government offices and educational institutions for an indefinite period.

According to details, Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) was observing a shutter down strike for the release of their arrested leader Attaullah Saqib, who was taken into custody in the last week of March for alleged involvement in an incident in which some miscreants had opened fire on a procession soon after the Kohistan carnage.

The rioters ran amok when police refused to release some of their arrested colleagues allegedly involved in firing on a rally

The enraged mob blocked the road by burning and incidents of aerial firing were also reported. Some unknown men hurled hand grenades at Ittehad Chowk that injured two policemen and a passerby.

The local administration is trying to control the situation, while curfew has been clamped the area for an indefinite period, but the gunshots can still be heard, restricting students and office workers to their respective institutes.

It is pertinent to mention here that a complete shutter-down strike was observed against the arrest of ASWJ leader Attaullah Saqib, who is said to be chief of Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) Gilgit chief.

“The unknown gunmen opened fire on a group of Sunnis while they were appealing to people to shut their shops in response to the strike call,” senior local police official Ali Sher told AFP.

In the February incident, gunmen disguised in military fatigues hauled 18 Shiite Muslim men off buses and shot them dead in cold blood in the northern district of Kohistan, which neighbours the Swat valley, a former Taliban stronghold.

A local intelligence official, who did not want to be identified, confirmed Tuesday’s death toll and also said a hand grenade had been used.

“But we still don’t know who the attackers were,” he said.

“What we can say at the moment is that tensions have been mounting high between Shiite and Sunni population in the area for the last many weeks.”

Gilgit is the capital of Pakistan’s far northern Gilgit-Baltistan region.

Human rights groups have heavily criticised the Pakistani government for failing to crack down on sectarian violence between the country’s majority Sunni and minority Shiite Muslim communities that has killed thousands.

Curfew imposed after 12 killed in Gilgit and Chilas | The Nation

At least 12 persons were killed and dozens of others injured in the incidents of violence in Gilgit and Chilas on Tuesday. Gunmen opened fire and killed six passengers in Chilas. According to official sources, the passengers were taken off buses and were then killed. Six buses were also set ablaze. Earlier at least five people were killed and around 50 injured after unidentified persons threw a hand grenade on a protest rally near Gari Bagh in Gilgit. The city was already observing a strike and later a curfew was imposed after it virtually turned into a battleground between rival sects. Firing was reported despite the imposition of a curfew. The rally was called by Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) for release of one of its leader who was detained earlier. According to sources, two motor cyclists lobbed the grenade and fled, leaving dozens injured. Local volunteers amid firing shifted the injured to hospitals where hundreds of people turned up to donate blood. Despite the announcement of a curfew, rival sects continued firing at each other, while the government warned residents to stay inside their houses or they would be shot dead. According to sources, several people were stranded at various locations due to the curfew and constant firing. The situation is said to be highly precarious due to indiscriminate firing. In a separate incident, assailants killed a man while he was in the lawn of his house in Majini Muhalla. The ISPR stated that the Army has been summoned to Gilgit to control the law and order situation. Eyewitnesses said that the district administration and law enforcement agencies were not present to control the violent situation whereas fear gripped the entire area after the hostility.

What does that have to do with raising ones voice for the killing going on against Shia's?

Don't try to create a chasm between shia and sunni here.

Please let us not go in that direction. I apologize for this guys provocative comments. In recent days shia have been killed in gilgit, balochistan and a man in Karachi as well. We should condemn violence whereever we see it without looking at race.

SSP is clearly a terrorist organization like Jundullah and LeJ. We need to take serious action against Jundullah and SSP in gilgit baltistan. I don't know why army is failing to arrest a single culprit.

LOL.. Are you nuts.. Gilgit and Baltistan was a part of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir at the time of partition. In the UNSC that whole state is declared as a disputed area..

True.. But just as bad for the dead people

welcome to 2012...princely states have long gone. Stop being nostalgic..
and before you start. Pakistan's claim for Indian occupied Kashmir is due to the fact that the people of Kashmir didn't vote to join India and were forced to do so..

if your claim continues on the base of long gone history...why not claim the whole of Pakistan and Afghanistan? All the area was once India? wasn't it?

Go read up on your UNSC resolutions first (specifically resolution 47).. Either whole of it is Disputed or none of it is..

Sad.

Gilgit Baltistan is usually pretty peaceful.

As for the indians. I've never heard ANYONE from that area talking about wanting to join bharat. They consider themselves Pakistanis like people from Azad Kashmir. People from indian occupied Kashmir for the most part do not consider themselves indian.

This continues for long, things might change on that front pretty soon.. BTW.. lets stay on the topic please..

People gilgit baltistan/Azad Kashmir dislike india as much as the average Pakistani.

Like I said I've never seen a pro-india rally in any of those areas ever. This is a stark difference to indian occupied Kashmir.

ISLAMABAD: At least 14 people were Tuesday killed in sectarian violence in Pakistan.

Ten bus passengers, believed to be Shia Muslims, were shot dead in Bonar Das area in Chilas city after being force to disembark. The gunmen then opened fire at them.

The attack came soon after clashes between Sunni Muslims and police in neighbouring Gilgit city early Tuesday left four people dead.

Activists of a Sunni group in Gilgit were protesting against the detention of their leader by police March 28.

He was accused of firing at a rally of Shia Muslims last month injuring three people, Urdu channel Dunya TV said.

Chilas also witnessed clashes between Sunni and Shia Muslims in which at least five buses were set on fire, Xinhua quoted Urdu channel AAJ TV as saying.

A curfew has been imposed in the area and the army has been called out.

14 dead in Pakistan violence - The Times of India

It's okay. They were shias.

Is this how you guys disrespect the dead? What kind of low lifes are you. 10 people lose their lives and you attempt to troll? The OP puts a smiley on because it humors him and you go one level below him? Your mindset is a disgraceful one but is educational to us - to show us how not to behave like

R.I.P. for the lost ones and of course prayers for the families.

.
Ahem. Not very good at sarcasm, are ya?

and you are not very good at covering your tracks troll. Do you have nothing to say on topic about the dead? Why are you disrespecting the forum and members by picking this thread to attempt to troll?
Violence of this nature is a terrible act - for whatever reason they attempt to justify it. Taking of lives is simply a disgraceful act. Lets hope the culprits are found asap and dealt with accordingly
