At least five killed, two dozen injured in Gilgit violence | Pakistan | DAWN.COM

GILGIT: At least five people have been killed and around two dozen wounded after a wave of violence erupted in different areas of Gilgit on Tuesday; curfew has been imposed in the area, DawnNews reported.

The violence in the area started after a bomb blast at a rally of people protesting for the release of Maulana Ataullah of Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jamaat at Ittehad chowk.

The bomb blast left at least 22 people wounded.

The blast caused a state of panic in the area resulting in continuous firing in the different parts of Gilgit.

At least seven people were wounded in different incidents of firing and five of them succumbed to wounds, the latest reports suggest.

Overall two dozen people suffered wounded in the incident including two police officials.

Curfew has been imposed in the area for an indefinite period but the gunshots can still be heard.

The students and office workers are confined in their respective institutes because of the law and order situation in the area.

LOL.. Are you nuts.. Gilgit and Baltistan was a part of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir at the time of partition. In the UNSC that whole state is declared as a disputed area..

GB is very much a part of the disputed territory as per the UN and as per India too.

Gilgit Baltistan is a province of pakistan, with a elected representaive, and it was made by the cabinet and president.

How is Gilgit Baltistan disputed territory when it is an integral part of pakistan, pak laws apply, pak rules and everything!

The same thing holds true for Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.. Its a state of India, made by Cabinet and President of India with Indian rules and laws and taxes applicable.. would that make that area as non disputed..

IN 1947, Kashmir, Jammu, Laddakh, present Aski Chin and G&B (Northern Areas) were all a part of the princely state of Kashmir. The same got split between India and Pakistan (and later China). The whole area is though disputed as per the UNSC resolution 47

If Pakistan is ready to give up its constant whining about UN resolutions and plebiscite, then the Kashmir matter is already settled, you keep what you got and we keep what we have. Let's sign on a treaty making LOC permanent and India will be more than happy.

Unfortunately some people in Pakistan still dream of taking the whole of Kashmir,not that it matters much since Pakistan is powerless to get it through war or diplomacy.

Pointing out of resolution is necessary to highlight some Pakistanis hypocrisy about ignoring the resolution at will and invoking it where they find necessary.

Hey ! That Blast wounded 22 people everyone was Sunni, Most of peoples were killed in Bomb blasts are sunnis, Our Establishments is Full of Shia leaders, Wahida Shah Might be shia too..
