At least five killed, two dozen injured in Gilgit violence | Pakistan | DAWN.COM
GILGIT: At least five people have been killed and around two dozen wounded after a wave of violence erupted in different areas of Gilgit on Tuesday; curfew has been imposed in the area, DawnNews reported.
The violence in the area started after a bomb blast at a rally of people protesting for the release of Maulana Ataullah of Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jamaat at Ittehad chowk.
The bomb blast left at least 22 people wounded.
The blast caused a state of panic in the area resulting in continuous firing in the different parts of Gilgit.
At least seven people were wounded in different incidents of firing and five of them succumbed to wounds, the latest reports suggest.
Overall two dozen people suffered wounded in the incident including two police officials.
Curfew has been imposed in the area for an indefinite period but the gunshots can still be heard.
The students and office workers are confined in their respective institutes because of the law and order situation in the area.
looks like the mess is spreading to the disputed territory as well, which ironically has been the most quite part of Pakistan so far..
