BHOPAL: Next year on Independence Day, India will have the world's largest 750MW solar power plant in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, which will pip America's much-vaunted 550-megawatt Desert Sunlight solar project in California, commissioned four days ago.

Acquisition of 1,500 hectares of land for the Rs 4000 crore project is close to completion and government agencies are likely to invite tenders from developers by April. The state government is setting up the plant in a joint venture with Solar Energy Corporation of India.

The expected cost of power production is pegged at Rs 5 per/unit which would be lower than production costs in any solar project in the country, including the one at Neemuch in MP and Mehsana and Patan in Gujarat.

Yeah good luck but we're already on our way brothers from across the border.
Google Quaid e Azam Solar Park in Bahawalpur.
First stage capacity on installation will be 100MW and will come live in the next couple of months.
The plan is to extend it in phases to reach 1000MW by 2020.

Not a comparison, but good to know that solar power projects are coming across all of South Asia. IIRC, Bangladesh is also setting up solar plants.

Good selection.

Madhya Pradesh is one arid state with some seriously crazy-@$$ temperatures. Been to Gwalior and Khajuraho in peak summers. Biggest mistake of my life.

MP is already a power-surplus state as of 2013 and is the second only state in the country to have a robust power infrastructure at a state level.

Good work being done.! Solar power is the future.

It is time more and more companies invest in R&D for more efficient silicone solar panels that efficiently convert sunlight into power.

Considering that a majority of states in our country have the blessings of having a strong sunlight (from Punjab to Bengal and down south till TN), solar power parks would do great.

..too good to believe..
The M.P's PWD and political system is corrupt 100%..There would be a power plant on papers.

More we invest in renewables, the better is the future. I'm surprised at the unit price though, that's a sharp decline from the Rs 8-9/kwh.

Shivraj singh has changed the face of M.P for good..
Not really,He focuses too much on farmers and populist schemes while ignoring the industrial sector, while this may be good for short term but it will backfire one day.

Once upon a time (When Diggy was CM) MP was electric deficient state. Now it is electric Surplus state... Good going ShivRaj jee..

from what I heard M.P and chattisgarh have made great leaps in transforming themselves in to a developing states from previous BIMRAU status... I would say this leap is much btr than gujarat which was already a developed state.. akhilesh yadav has to learn something frm his counterparts in administering the state effectively..
