Successful launch of Astra BVRAAM from India's frontline fighter aircraft Su-30 MKI seems to have fast tracked process of further test. Sources confirm the Second test of Astra has been scheduled in next few months again from Su 30 MKI but this time Pilotless Target Aircraft ( PTA) will be used as target for the missile.
DRDO has planned series of tests of the missile in current and next year and is closely working with Indian Air Force in setting test parameters .DRDO plans to introduce missile to IAF in 2016 . Longer Astra Mk2 with range of 100 km is already in works and DRDO plans to test missile from Ground launcher by end of this year or by early next year .
