Assam Would Have Been Independent if China Helped:ULFA Chairman Times of Assam

The chairman of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), Arabinda Rajkhowa yesterday denied having received support from China or Pakistan. “There are reports about China helping us. If such a big powerful country was helping us, then we would have made Assam Independent long time back” Rajkhowa stated.

Rajkhowa clarified that he and other leaders of the outfit did go to Pakistan when Operation Bajrang was launched in Assam in 1990 but denied that they were backed by Islamic fundamentalists of that country. “Our organization is against communalism and fundamentalism. Therefore, the question of us siding up with fundamentalist groups does not arise at all,” Rajkhowa said, reacting to media reports about the ULFA being backed by Pakistani Islamic fundamentalists.

Rajkhowa stated that they had gone to Pakistan because the situation was different at that time. They had considered the enemy of an enemy as their friend then as there was an Assam-India conflict. The ULFA chairman stated that just because they went there, it does not mean that Pakistan provided them their weapons. Like other outfits, they acquired their weapons from various sources such as arms dealers, other armed groups, etc.

“We not only went to Pakistan, but to Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar. We also went to Europe and international bodies to garner support for our cause. Staying in a country does not mean that the country helped us,” Rajkhowa said.

Mentionable that The pro-talk faction of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) had submitted their charter of demands to the Union Government of India in New Delhi on 5th August. The demand charter, included apart from political, economic and cultural rights for Assam, a fresh look on the issue of sovereignty and a High level discussion on grounds and root causes for ULFA struggle and their genuineness. This, the ULFA claims is to ensure that the people of Assam can assert their indisputable rights to control their own lands and resources.

The next round of talks is expected to be held after August 15 at the Home Minister level.

No conflict with Paresh Baruah!

Arabinda Rajkhowa denied having any ideological conflict with Paresh Baruah and rubbished reports of a split in the outfit, saying it is only the media that creating these so called “factions”. He claimed that Paresh Baruah, their commander-in-chief, also wanted a solution to the Indo – Assam conflict and confirmed that he has been in touch with Baruah over the telephone. He however cited that Baruah has doubts about how much the government of India can be trusted.

What about the China connection of Paresh Baruah

Times of Assam had earlier revealed that an email from Arunodoy Dohotiya, the publicity chief of the hardliner faction of ULFA, was sent from Beijing of China with the IP address as 116.54.165.235. There were also reports from sources which claimed that Paresh Baruah has been able to move his elder son Ankur Khan Sunlee to China.

ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa claims that ULFA could have made Assam Independent if China helped them. People would be left asking then, what the reported good relation between Paresh Baruah and China signify.

bad luck , ulfa is destroyed by Hasina! Hope next BNP govt. will start working with China to help Ulfa in their rightful struggle of freedom...

Not really we are not yet stopping require water flow to BD , and in which world building dam to generate electricity and controlling flood is equal to help terrorist organisations who killed innocents in past..
But we got it .. how you guys think .. any way sooner or later there will be more fight regarding water as south asia is water stress region and things will be not going to improve ... BSF and other law enforcement agencies should keep tight check on ULFA and if required they should be ready to destroy their rat holes on other side of border ....

Thanks India, for hosting our largest separatist group since 1959. I.e. For over half a century.

Yeah I was knowing this is coming .. but we are not arming any one with weapons ... I hope we will keep thread on track .. related to ULFA ....

That moron , his end is nearing .. China didnot help not because they could not, but because it would have yield them nothing ,.. now he is just an old stupid small time gagnster still living in 70s, regretting for wasting his youth ..
absolutely pathetic ,noone here has no respect for him..

Paresh is left alone with few of his supporters changing sides and others getting killed, so he wants China to help him out from his death bed.

There is a reason why China dares not meddle with ULFA or other separatist groups. H.E. Dalai Lama is India's guest and is only allowed to function as the spiritual head of the Tibetans. Whatever their govt-in-exile is, it has no official recognition by India and neither does India allow any political activities by the said group on Indian soil. China is grateful to India for THAT. And also for not making any noise about Tibet. So, China has an ulterior motive for NOT 'helping' those separatist groups.

Its politics as usual.

That is not bad luck..you know what was ..?

India interfering and saving you people from the boot of West Pakistanis....in hindsight we should have let them complete the job they started and did well for 9 months...atleast there would have been no illegal migrants pole vaulting into our territory.

Tell me please, do you consider the "New York Times" and the "Tibetan government in exile" to be Chinese propaganda sources?

New York Times - Dalai Lama Group Says It Carried out operations against China in the 1960's

The Dalai Lama's administration acknowledged today that it received $1.7 million a year in the 1960's from the Central Intelligence Agency, but denied reports that the Tibetan leader benefited personally from an annual subsidy of $180,000.

The money allocated for the resistance movement was spent on training volunteers and paying for guerrilla operations against the Chinese, the Tibetan government-in-exile said in a statement.

The Tibetan government in exile itself admitted that they were conducting guerilla operations against China in the 1960's, i.e. after 1959 when they were being hosted on Indian soil.

The issue of the Tibetan government in exile played a major part in the run-up to the 1962 Sino-Indian war. India's Forward Policy was the short-term trigger.

While I will agree that the issue of Dalai Lama and the exiles are a cause of concern and were partially responsible for the tension and war. I would disagree on the last part about India's forward policy issue. The boundary between the nation was too sketchy and both sides used to intrude on each other's side to say that it was completely India's fault is a bit over the top.

As for asking China's help, it would have been pointless since China would had gained nothing from it.
