The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran's death circa May 19, 2009, in circumstances we will never quite get to know, concludes a morality play.

As the curtain comes down and we leave the theater, the spectacle continues to haunt us. We feel a deep unease and can't quite figure out the reason. Something rankles somewhere. And then we realize we have blood on our hands.

Prabhakaran's blood. No, it is not only Prabhakaran's, but also of70,000 Sri Lankan Tamils who have perished in the unspeakable violence through the past quarter century.

All the pujas we may perform to our favorite Hindu god, Lord Ganesh, for good luck each morning religiously so that we march ahead in our life from success to success cannot wash away the guilt we are bearing - the curse of the 70,000 dead souls.

Our children and grandchildren will surely inherit the great curse.

A long time ago, we created Prabhakaran. We picked him up as an urchin from nowhere. What we found charming about him was that he was so thoroughly apolitical - almost innocent about politics. He was a simpleton in many ways, who had a passion for weapons and the military regimen. He suited our needs perfectly

IGP rejects claim of Ulfa men's arrest

Staff Correspondent Bangladesh police chief has rejected the Ulfa's claim that two of its top leaders were arrested in Dhaka on Sunday and then handed over to India.

"I don't have any information about such arrests or handover (of Ulfa leaders) to India," Inspector General of Police Nur Mohammad told The Daily Star.

Quoting a spokesperson of Indian separatist group United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa), Times of India reported yesterday that the outfit's foreign secretary Sasha Choudhury and finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika were picked up by Bangladeshi intelligence sleuths at midnight Sunday from a house in Dhaka's Uttara area.

"Seven to eight people in civvies took the two leaders saying the duo were being summoned for some interrogation by senior officials. After that there was no information of them and we suspect they might have been handed over to our enemies (meaning India)," Ulfa's military spokesperson Raju Baruah told the local media via telephone and email, the Times of India reported.

It also reported, there is, however, no confirmation from Dhaka or New Delhi. Assam police and Indian intelligence officials expressed ignorance about the reports.

New Delhi in the past had repeatedly claimed that northeast militants were operating out of bases in Bangladesh with several of their top leaders staying safe in Dhaka. Bangladesh had earlier denied such allegations.

However, the new Awami League government of Sheikh Hasina assured New Delhi of all support and cooperation to evict any Indian separatists from Bangladesh, the Indian daily reported.

The report concluded saying Ulfa general secretary Anup Chetia -- in a Dhaka prison since 1997 -- is in Bangladesh due to the absence of any extradition agreement between the two countries, despite New Delhi's formal appeals to hand him over for trial in India.

Mild? No mam. We have openly confessed on this, on many occasion's. In same spirit, we have also gone ahead and declared them a banned terror organization, assets frozen, supporters arrested. LTTE has its civilian support base in pockets of TamilNadu (and politicians like Vaiko & Jaylalitha). But, zero, i repeat , Zero support from GoI.

Indian duplicity about LTTE in post Rajiv assassination is just staggering. In one hands Indian govt’s officially banned their own terror organization and on the other banked on support from pro LTTE south Indian political parties to ride into state power. Hence, came Indian policy of obstructing Srilankan effort to obtain arms to fight against LTTE terror. All the while Indian Tamil politicians and population from south india actively supported and sponsored Indian created terror LTTE and indian govt looked the other way. So, officially Indian banned LTTE, terror organization of its own creation but unofficially india kept supporting LTTE terror by using south Indian state machinery and population.

Because of such Indian duplicity, Srilankan army almost overrun by LTTE but it was Pakistan and China who saved Srilanka to hold on and finally defeat India created terror LTTE. Even on that Srilankan effort Indian govt number of times objected obtaining arms from Pakistan and China. Indian attempts to portray as savior is just the same deceit india has been playing with all its neighbors.

Agartala, Nov 6 (IANS) Border Security Force (BSF) troopers have detained two senior United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leaders along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, officials said here Friday.

'Top ULFA functionaries Chitraban Hazarika and Shashadhar Chowdhury were detained by our patrol party Thursday night along the Bangladesh border in western Tripura,' an official said on condition of anonymity.

'The ULFA leaders are being interrogated,' the official added.

Senior BSF officials declined to comment on the matter.

Tripura's Director General of Police (DGP) Pranay Sahaya told IANS that the police had no information about the arrests.

'We are trying to talk to the BSF officials to collect this information,' he added.

ULFA's military spokesperson Raju Baruah earlier said that Choudhury, the outfit's foreign secretary and Hazarika, the finance secretary were picked up by Bangladeshi intelligence officials late Sunday night from a house in Dhaka's Uttara area, a posh area in the Bangladeshi capital city.

Since we have million's of Tamils in SL, GoI took a neutral stand of not supporting SL army by means of arms (in reality we provided SL army with low intensity weapon's).

You are partially right on one part, we are warry of Pak arms supply to SL army. Partly because of encirclement and partly for bombings of civilians.... but i guess .. Encirclement, is not what we would like.

INDIAN Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has directed the Defence Minister to send a team of experts to Sri Lanka to help in speeding up the removal of mines in the war-ravaged Mannar, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts to pave the way for speedy resettlement of uprooted Tamils now living in make-shift camps in Vavuniya.

This was stated here on Saturday (24) by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. V. Thangabalu who accompanied the team of DMK and Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu when they went to New Delhi last week to brief the Prime Minister and Congress president Sonia Gandhi about the outcome of their visit to Sri Lanka.

Mr. Thangabalu said that the team submitted a detailed report on Friday to Dr. Singh and Mrs. Gandhi, seeking India's help for the rehabilitation and resettlement of the displaced Tamils.

Following the team's visit, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa agreed to send home 58,000 displaced Tamils in a fortnight.

Already over 40,000 have been sent back. Mr. Thangabalu said that soon after the team's meeting with him, Dr. Singh asked the Defence Minister to send a team of demining experts to Sri Lanka.

The Indian government also spoke to Basil Rajapaksa, advisor to President Rajapaksa, to send a team to India to discuss how to utilise the assistance given by India for the resettlement of internally displaced persons, he said.
