Asifuzzaman Prithil: Joramthanga said this after meeting the Union Home Minister of India Amit Shah. He said the Corona situation in his state was rapidly deteriorating. If Assam does not blockade, it will have no choice but to seek the help of neighboring states. It violates the Constitution of India but has nothing to do with it. The Economic Times

Fighting is raging on the Assam-Mizoram border. Both the states share borders with Bangladesh. There is no other way to enter the mainland of Mizoram except Assam. Bangladeshi territory is much easier than that.

Joramthanga said, 'What else can a hungry person do? We have received rice and oil not from Delhi but from Myanmar and Bangladesh when needed. The situation is much worse this time. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. Edit: Rashid

BD needs to assist. India represents an existential threat and BD needs to tactfully exploit its faultlines.

Everything mizos wants has to payed for in hard currency.... i would be against BD doing anything under the guise of humanitarian assistance. They need to understand their stance vis-a-vis BD to date has not been friendly.

Whatever prompted Centre to act in 1971, has already been achieved.

They have no skin in this game going on between Assamese and Mizos.

Bangladesh needs to act properly with Mizos, creating trade and business MOUs as necessary. Without angering Assamese.

Gotta strike while the iron is hot...

Two sovereign govts have to maintain protocols. So, even if BD and Mizoram sign an MOU it must be cosigned also by a representative from the Indian Center, Delhi.

However, unofficial purchases of emergency food items or medicines may be different. Unofficial means a kind of smuggling whereby both Dhaka and Delhi know it and both BGB and BSF look the other way by a pre-arrangement.

Ehem!! Tripura and Mizoram should join BD. 😉 Jokes aside would it really benefit Tripura and Mizoram if they join us? Economically? @UDAYCAMPUS

Mizoram is out of the question because they see Bengali population in the region in let's see less than ideal light. It's one of the reasons behind the current Mizoram-Assam clash. If we just think economically, I guess if they get port access more easily but the primary point of the role and attention given to Mizos in a overwhelming Bengali country is anyone's guess.
Tripura on the other hand is Bengali majority having a favourable view of Bangladesh. Even here though people have strongly alligned their identity to the Indian identity as a whole and keep Bengali and national identity seperate. Tripuri identity and History of kingdom of Tripura only supports close connection with historical Comilla and Noakhali and no other district of Bangladesh, not to mention current Tripuris don't have favourable views of Bangladesh and Autonomous Tribal districts are there in 70% of Tripura. For these reasons union in my opinion is not possible unless there is a huge campaign to drastically change the current views people have, targeting both Bengalis and Tripuris, atleast for a peaceful union. Though if I were to guess the only state in North East having the best probability to join Bangladesh would be Tripura. We stand to gain in trade connectivity with North East and being part of a rapidly growing economy, also converting cultural ties to national ties. Tripura being in such a strategic location connecting many North East states with Ports in Bangladesh gives it huge potential. The current waterway connectivity efforts and roadlinks all point to that potential, though it can be argued that potential doesn't change much with change in nationality.

Mizos already think they are superior to Bangladeshis (They think they are kind of like Koreans/Japanese - delusion of high order). :p:

Yesterday's dog-consuming illegal settlers from Myanmar, today becoming race-supremacist idiots.

We may have issues...
only relevant question now is who is winning?

Mizos must be looking Mongoloid. So, they think they are as developed as Koreans and Japanese are.

If you mean Assamese and Mizos, then of course Assamese are. If they block shipments from the rest of India to Mizoram, then Mizos are screwed. Hence the sudden 'desire of friendship' with Bangladesh. Just look at the map, it will become clear.

Indians have handled these tribals with too much of a kid glove, Tribals in these states do not know how to act civilized (the meaning of population-diversity in a Union like India) and can't realize who calls the shots. Indians as usual are rather conflict-averse, so these Mizos have become too bold.

Indians need to grow a spine and place compliant administrations in these fringe states.

Never heard a Mizo or any indigenous ethnic community from NE in my life that think they are Korean or Japanese, admiring kpop is one thing, that's universal, though genetically the majority of them are closer to Southern Chinese, typical of most tibeto burman ,and Burmese up in North.
I don't doubt Mizo have a less favourable view of Bangladesh, because yes -colourism exist in all asian society , and news of crime, rape, slums , and various unruly practices associated with Bangla don't paint a rosey picture, but that's not just exclusive among Mizo but it's the whole world's opinion,Mizo aren't anything special to think any differently.

The intelligent westerner acknowledges how different and civilized Mizoram operates,he notes, the Mizos hardly even honk their vehicles so as to not disturb others, but such understandings is of course a lost cause on some cockroaches that projects their own 3rd class vile tendency from their head on others.
Ppl are ignorant i guess.

It doesn't matter what they think, inhabitants of Northeast India are primitive tribals. If I were born in a cave and remained isolated from the civilized world, I would have also considered myself as the greatest scientist in the universe while making fire to cook the beaver I just hunted.

I am not against helping them but we also need to ensure to cultivate proper geopolitical leverage. There shouldn't be any free lunch.
