The russians can no longer be trusted they sold gaddafi out whats to stop them from selling Assad out later ? Russia wants to get in the WTO and they will give up allies for that, Assad should turn to the Chinese for weaponry.

As for Syria, Assad is the choice of the people. He was installed by no foreign power.

Iranian intervention will be stealthy, just as it has been in Gaza, Lebanon and Iraq. The IRG fighters will not wear uniforms. And the Lebanese Hezbollah forces will intervene in the same way. If Turkey intervenes then the car bomb carnage in Istanbul will make the Kurd actions look like kindegarten playtime. I think the Syria is the most strategically important asset that Iran has and it will not take losing its western conduit to Israel without a very bloody and very patient fight.

Unlike Gaddafi who had almost no supporters Assad has strong support from alwais, Christians, Shia's and Syrian nationalists the it's the Saudi Backed Sunni's that are problem, just like Iraq the Sunni's destroyed it.

I think it would have to be Turkey with the support of Arab League to take him out. They are Muslim and have the military capability. And Iran will think twice about going directly agianst them. For any other country Syria and it's allies will "cry crusader invasion".
