Why should a technology superior country like BD buy buses from India or VT when our PM is now targeting to build jet planes in the country even before assembling nice-looking buses? What a fantasy?
@UKBengali, would you like to answer? Is not Hasina a shame to Bangladesh?

There are plenty of nice coachwork shops in Bangladesh too but engine and chassis is still the same AL...bad basis for building a bus (sorry but it is what it is). Thankfully AL sales can only happen here in corrupt govt. sales (low bidder) situation. I am sure even in India Volvo and MAN is preferred over AL.

Some products of local coachwork builders (mostly non-luxury intercity buses built on MAN, HINO and ISUZU chassis), Luxury buses are all imported of course.

As usual, you are sending tons of photographs to show off the BD economic power. But are these buses built in BD? India can take pride in these buses, not Bangladesh.

Ashok Leyland buses are death traps.
I have had the unfortunate pleaure to ride in them for work and holy smokes if that thing catches on fire (probably 100% chance of that too) eeryone will die.

Also, one of the most uncomfortable rides ever.

Do Pakistani cities use AL buses?
Plenty of African countries use AL buses with no problem.

don't think so.
I think you were assuming I was in Pakistan. I wasn't.

And yes, lots of developing countries use them as I think they are quite cheep.

CHENNAI, AUGUST 17

Leading truck and bus maker Ashok Leyland has won an order from Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) for the supply of 300 Ashok Leyland buses for an undisclosed sum.

The order is for double-decker buses, which are expected to help in decongesting the busy roads of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. This procurement is against a tender under an Indian line of credit. The delivery will take place within eight months, according to a statement.

“Bangladesh is one of our key export markets and this order further strengthens our position. This order is testimony of our leadership in the country,” said Vinod K. Dasari, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland.

“Exports has been a strong focus for us to de-risk from the cyclicality in the Indian market and to globalise our product portfolio. This is a significant win for us and builds on the strong export growth we had last year,” he said.

I am guessing these are the same Fuggly POS Titan double deckers. Eyesore is an understatement.

I wish they would give the contract to local companies to import Chinese components under ToT and assemble the darned things locally. Why give Ashok Leyland more excuse to pollute Dhaka?? Apparently these POS AL buses cost $300,000 apiece. Can you say RIPOFF, boys and girls?

Here is what they looked like when new (previous generation),

This is three months later, the bodies seemingly have been made from tinfoil used for laddoos....

Body can be made as luxurious as the buyer want... you need to spend money accordingly...

Now don't tell me that you have better infrastructure than UK and want more luxurious buses...

So you want to say that US or Canadian agencies compromised on the laid down standards and guideline while allowing a AL bus in US or Canada... they put their citizens life in danger for AL... let me pinch myself.

OK, that is no India or Pakistan... anything below standard is not allowed to ply on road... forget about public transport...

sigh.... stupid indian is stupid.
Did I mention any country at all?

All I said was that I had taken them for work. For all you know, it was in Antarctica.

And yes, you cannot get any Indian junk in Canada. They would put you in jail if you tried to run that junk on the roads.

Stupidity started when you did not mentioned the place where you used AL...

Anyway, bus that's too by AL in Antarctica... that means reliable...

Now don't say... that you used it in Africa...
:p

Why do you want to know the country? I don't need indians stalking me.

I did not look at your flag. My apologies. Anyway, I think Ashok Leyland is a viable option for developing countries. As other members posted, the quality increases the more expensive the bus. Al does produce some pretty high end ones for higher prices.
it looks like BD opted for some of the cheaper ones(nothing wrong with that). Typical example of you get what you pay for.

BD assemble bus.
So, upload the pictures instead of Indian buses by @Bilal9. I know also that some importer brings the components for a few units of Pajero from Japan and assembles in Pragati. But, when it assembles ten Japanese vehicles, it imports 35,000 used cars from Japan. What does it imply?

If BD can assemble a large number, why should it buy fully assembled buses from India? It should export to India, instead, like garments, isn't it? In such a situation, do you have any scope to say BD even assembles buses? Rather, BD imports them usually from India.

তাই বলি, ভারতীয় বাসের ছবি পাঠিয়ে গোল্ডেন বাঙ্গালী @Bilal9 পরের ধনে পোদ্দারি করার চেষ্টা করছে।
