I want to share the origin of word Meerasi. In olden times rich people hired people from low socio economic backgrounds to keep record of their family trees. These people used to draw meeras or family tree maps for their clients. Thats why their name became meerasis. As time passed, besides record keeping of family trees of rich , semi rich individuals these meerasis started doing dance and entertainment activities at important events; like child birth etc, of these influential people. Then thats how the entertainment profession started getting associated with meerasi tabqa to the point that their original profession, that is recording family trees, faded away and it reduced totally to entertainment activities.
