ARY Visits troops on LOC

. . . . .
Pakistani troops executing duties 8000 feet high on LOC during Ramzan.

Above 15,000 feet is where the real fun starts.

I find it to be absolutely breathtaking and beautiful at those heights. Even though crossing 18,000 feet without proper acclimatization gave me pulmonary edema and put me in a coma. I still love going back to the Northern Areas.

Yup, this picture was taken just last week, while most of Pakistan was sizzling in temperatures hitting 50 Celsius, troops on the LOC were supporting winter clothing.

Lookup hypoxic training. Our army should have that equipment. Around here you can actually rent it.

By all definitions I am a Balti born in a Punjabi body :D

The drop in oxygen and physical exertion at really high posts can't be replicated. You need to be stepped up to consistently higher positions over a period of time. It needs to be a permanent feature.

What post is this? The highest Indian permanent post is about 21000 ft as far as I am aware.

The highest Pakistani post is also around same.

I got sick because tried going from around 3000 ft (home) to 18000 ft (post) in one week.

Yes, that's why I asked if it was a permanent post.
Most temporary posts also don't extend beyond 23000 ft as there's usually very little space, temperature is unfavourable and oxygen levels plummet. Troops at such posts are regularly rotated and they are abandoned in winters.

As far as I'm aware, Indian Army has 24*7*365 deployment.(Post Kargil War)
Supplies are stocked up in the preceding months to sustain deployments in Winter.

Those are the permanent posts that have the infrastructure to sustain deployment in winters. Prior to the Kargil War, even they were vacated in winters and troops were withdrawn to coy or bn HQs located at more tolerable ranges.

The temporary posts are uninhabitable in winters.

To give you an idea, Tiger Hill which was vacated and subsequently occupied by Pakistan is around 17500 feet.
