BCCL sues Arnab Goswami, invokes intellectual property rights over Republic TV’s ‘exposé’ tapes
The company said the journalist had procured the material while he was still employed at its English news channel Times Now.

Republic TV journalist Arnab Goswami has been sued by his former employer Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd for infringing its copyright, The Economic Times reported on Wednesday. The complaint filed with the Azad Maidan Police Station in Mumbai also accused journalist Prema Sridevi of the same crime. Sridevi also works at Republic now.

According to The Economic Times report, BCCL has accused Goswami and Sridevi of theft, criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and infringement of Intellectual Property Right. BCCL has pointed out two news reports carried on Republic TV, in which they had used material procured while both journalists worked for Times Now, a BCCL-owned company. Goswami was the editor-in-chief of Times Now while Sridevi was a reporter there before they started Republic TV.

On May 6, the day Republic TV had been launched, the channel had carried an “expose” on Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Uadav’s alleged consultations with criminal-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin. They had played taped conversations between the two to establish their point.

On May 8, Republic TV played taped conversations between Sridevi and Sunanda Pushkar’s assistant to indicate that Congress leader Shashi Tharoor had a role to play in the death of his wife (Pushkar).

BCCL held that Goswami had admitted that the tapes were in his possession for the past two years. They have accused both journalists of deliberately using the company’s intellectual property to their benefit.

Goswami is also engaged in a dispute with BCCL over the use of his catchphrase, “The nation wants to know.”

BCCL is also the publisher of The Economic Times.

Ha Ha Ha. If they had the tapes and they didnt use them it proves that they were working under pressure from Lalu and Shashi Tharoor.

but yeah you gotta pick the right debates, sometimes I just turn it off right away. I don't even bother in the first place with the mainstream stuff to begin with given they are just sockpuppets for the most part....now almost entirely.

Now tell me where is the professional journalism anywhere today? Integrity, honour...these all died long ago. Its all different scales of lying (and paycheck receiving)....I at least appreciate those that take on the established crew and their lies and stake everything they got on it, and stand for something different from them....at least to get people out of their comfort zones.

Thats the thing I watch more in the guise he is a commentator than a journalist....didnt even know he claims to be one tbh.
