Three militants were killed on Monday in a gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir.

An army spokesperson said that three AK rifles were recovered from the militants who were killed in Awoora village of Pahalgam in Anantnag district. Police sources said the three were local militants.

Police said the gunfight erupted on Sunday evening after security forces received inputs about presence of militants in Awoora village. They launched a cordon and search operation which triggered an encounter with the militants.

Locals said as soon as the news of the encounter spread, people from neighbouring villages tried to march towards the site triggering clashes with the security forces.

On Sunday, security forces also arrested a suspected militant of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, believed to be an associate of slain LeT commander Abu Bakr in north Kashmir’s Sopore region.

I have to wonder what levels of oppression have forced these young, innocent Kashmiri youth to pick up arms instead of pens. Anywhere oppression and severe discrimination is rampant people will raise arms against the authorities. Even Lucknow muslims are waiting for spark that ignites the fire. Once the Indians start treating Lucknowis as Kashmiris they will have a revolution on their hands that they will be totally incapable of controlling.

Why don't you pick up the arms if it bothers you so much? They are fighting cause they are brain washed by mullahs on Pakistani side similar to al Qaeda, Isis or Taliban.

I really feel bad for some of these kids. They could have had better life. Thing with religious violence is that it is very difficult to remove it from roots. We should learn from China though situation is much tougher for India.
