Army to seek 20 SuperCobra helicopters from US

.
the other option is the Z-10 with western avionics and powerplant ala what the PAF does. the canadian P&W powerplant option could work if canada lifts the 'arms embargo'. canada is the only country which still has a 'embargo' on Pakistan.

Yar our army should also consider PAF approach towards problem solving.Divide into parts.get one part from someone.and the other part from someone else.

Although there is a reliance on U.S. equipment. Bear in mind that there are many countries operating systems such as UH-60 and CH-47, and perhaps AH-1Z in the future. Like the F-16 and C-130, these aircraft are supported by a global support network spanning many countries, even including some of Pakistan's relatively close geo-political partners - such as Turkey, UAE, KSA, etc. Furthermore, the U.S. would not have given Pakistan status as MNNA, nor would it have allowed it to join CTF-150, participate in Anatolian Eagle or even receive an invite for Red Flag if it there was no scope for long-term cooperation. Heck the U.S. even wants to establish a form of interoperability (Link-16, Block-52+, etc) with the Pakistani Forces, this isn't light stuff.

Amazingly, despite Pakistan's lackluster economic performance, lack of political objectives, lack of clarity, etc, there is still immense potential. Pakistan is effectively a 'tri-regional power' in terms of its political and economic weight in South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East - although restrained and largely static. Nonetheless, the U.S. is a smart country, and it does leave the door open for an opportunity to 'score' if and when a rising Pakistan were to emerge. The last thing you want to do is to leave a bad taste for such a generation, and have them give you trouble in multilateral institutions such as say G20 (expanded from original G7/8). As the spheres of power and global governance continue to expand, including the poised induction of some N-11 countries in the future, you would want as many friends in those spheres as possible.

Realistically speaking, the U.S. knows that Pakistan's region - i.e. Afghanistan, Arabian Sea, etc, - is a hotspot for a lot of assymetrical problems. Furthermore, I would say that the resolve and commitment to handle these issues is most mature in Pakistan than say Bahrain and UAE...although KSA is becoming increasingly prominent. Instead of having to over-rely on sketchy PMC operatives, deal with "violating a country's sovereignty", etc, etc, the U.S. knows it is supporting the countries affected most and closest. Should the helicopters and fighter aircraft perform well, then Pakistan (and others) will buy additional units. Should the training help, then Pakistan will award new training contracts, etc.

Knowing that you can't blame U.S. for civilian casualties, perhaps the Pakistani Forces will conduct their operations with sharpened precision and greater empathy for the innocent. Knowing the negativities of funding sub para-military militants, the Pakistani Establishment will learn to project its political policies on the global stage properly...and to take a few "hits for the team" by finally accepting land-taxation, land-reform, proper education, social-care support (health, disabilities, etc) and choking corruption.

s we love them so much tat we dont criticize them

Your those friends do not insult you in their support packages, neither they send under-cover forces like BlackWater, Xe and Dynacore to spy on you or kill your countrymen, nor they support insurgency against you, plus when they are in your country, they act like guests of yours and not Masters. They respect you and you respect them back.

Between Pakistan and American, its like they feel they are our gods, they own Pakistan but are letting Pakistanis live in it for some reason, they can insult us, our mothers, daughters and children and their blood is thicker than ours and they have right to insult our leadership/military generals and parliament anytime. They support the people countrymen hate the most including dictators and most corrupt politicians and air VOA at prime time in-spite of knowing this program only irritates our countrymen even more. When they think they have produced enough hatred, they "tip" the country with 20 helos that are expected to arrive 6 years down the road and expect everything has been neutralized. Your friends are surely better then who we consider as friend.

Honestly speaking, we are always in "trade" with American. If there is somebody who we call friend then its China and we are proud to have China as friend.

The report says that SuperCobra attack helicopters will not be available for foreign customers till 2015. Equipping the army with such helicopters earlier than 2015 will require either increased production or their diversion from the US Marine Corps.

this is SAD! why the hell do we plan on fighting the WoT till 2015! i mean seriously if these helicopters are being solely for the WoT in mind then its scary to imagine pakistan fighting a war for that long! so whatever is required is required now! we need the US helis now not in 2015! so it is good to wait for super cobras till 2015 for our defence needs but not for a war that is currently on going!

we need to try & bring this war to a quick conclusive end not a long drawn out affair! the longer it draws out the more we become fragile in terms of economically, militarily & as a nation!

Beautifully written, Mark. +1.:)

That is all fine but why are you holding back and not giving us your opinion? It would be nice to hear what you have to say on the chopper itself and how you perceive PAs need and the American perspective on it. Thanks in advance
