The tethered drones are being purchased under emergency procurement through a fast-track procedure under the 'buy-Indian' category, they said.

New Delhi:
The Indian Army has kick started the process to procure 130 new-age drone systems to bolster its overall surveillance and combat capabilities along sensitive border areas, officials said on Tuesday.

The tethered drones are being purchased under emergency procurement through a fast-track procedure under the 'buy-Indian' category, they said.

The tethered drone system consists of drones which are connected to a ground-based tether station and can provide surveillance of beyond the line of sight targets for prolonged periods.

The drones can also be launched in untethered mode for a certain duration to obtain additional information or confirm intelligence inputs, the officials said.

Each drone system will consist of two aerial vehicles with combined payloads, one man portable ground control station, one tether station and one remote video terminal among others, the officials said.

The last date of submission of the bid is February 14.

The Indian Army has been bolstering its overall surveillance apparatus along the nearly 3,500-km Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China following the eastern Ladakh border row that began in May 2020.

The Army has also issued a request for proposal (RFP) to procure 48 jet pack suits under emergency procurement through the fast track procedure (FTP) under the buy Indian category.

The jet pack suit is a device that propels the wearer through the air. The device uses gas or liquid to propel the user to fly.

The Army has also started the process to 100 'Robotic Mule' along with associated accessories. The last date of submission of the bid is February 6, the officials said.

. . . . .
No just stupid! jet packs and robotic mules, for God sake! Even the US military rejected them.

Jet packs are quite useful in Mountains when you want to send a single man up a mountain carrying a rope that can be tethered to the top. Rest can climb up via the rope.

Jet packs are also useful for rescue. This is a no brainer.

Indian Army relies on Mules for last mile connectivity in the Himalayas. IA has 6,000 mules are divided into 15 units. Usually, a company has three troopers and 96 animals. Each animal also has one to two handlers, depending on the load and terrain.

Mules can carry upto 80 kgs but Robotic Mules can carry upt to 180 kgs and can/should operate in hot, cold, wet, and dirty environments with little or no maintenance. This is still in RFP stage.

.
Does the indian military industrial complex or civilian industrial sector actually even produce things such as "jet packs" or "robotic mules" ?. 🤔
The tethered drones seem like a bit of a no brainer,as these would most probably be adaptions of existing commercial quad or hexa types already in production/being sold in india.

And Robotic Mules are powered by? Try flying the jet pack in the thin air of Siachin. Your Generals are stupid and you are stupider.

3. World’s First practical personal jetpacks now in India

In 2010 it reached an altitude of 5000fts. The jet pack is driven by a 2.0 L V4 2 stroke engine powering the two duct fans. The rate of climb is about 1000fts per minute with an estimate service ceiling of 8000fts. It can carry a payload of 120 kgs and reach speeds in excess of 100kmph.

Good luck with your fantasies. Try taking that thing up a mule track to carry supplies for your troops. BTW your Army buys even your mules from France.

. .
This is a special procurement fund that does not need clearance from the Ministry, and the fund is capped at Rs 300 Crores. So any shortcomings in any particular brigade can be fixed in an emergency basis.
More palm greasing no doubt and will fool the gullible Indian public.

I don't think IA operate on "fantasies", they operate on some of the toughest terrains in the world and has TONS of experience in mountain warfare.

They don't need arm chair generals or care much for them either.

Equine Breeding Stud, Babugarh

The main role of the establishment is to produce all types of equines (MA mules, GS mules, horses) for the army, produce sports horses of various disciplines, produce its own breeding stock for replacement against normal wastage.
