nice... even with serious combat use limitation this is a still a lethal weapon... and by far most undeniable...unfortunately one can't mount air defence against it so far... ...

Upgraded New version.

It's range is being uncapped from 290km>450km>600km, and eventually raised to 800km. So frequent tests are required.

Nirbhay is already there.

If everything goes well, in a decade's time BrahMos missiles will be upgraded from supersonic to hypersonic speeds.

"We are working on increasing the speed of the missile in a phased manner," said Sudhir Kumar Mishra, CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace Ltd.

"Making BrahMos itself was a challenge and we have done it and we would upgrade as per the needs," said Jamshyd N Godrej, chairman of Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd.

Interacting with the media after Godrej Aerospace handed over the 100th set of airframe BrahMos Aerospace and also won the order to produce 100 more units of the air-launched versions of the missile, Mishra said the process has already begun.

"The current BrahMos missiles have a speed of 2.8 Mach. In two years time, we would have a speed of 3.5 Mach. In the next three to four years time, we would have a speed of 5 Mach," Mishra said.

"Then we have to go hypersonic which would take seven to 10 years from ramjet engine we have to move to scramjet engine," he said, adding that the development is going to be a complex process.

"We have to look at heat, combustion, vibration and several other things," he said, adding that it's going to change the scenario.

The hypersonic missile would have immense destructive power besides its speed.

The Missile Technology Control Regime (MRCR) regime has enabled India to trade in high-end missile technology and also enhance its joint ventures with Russia.

Asked whether India is looking at exporting BrahMos to friendly countries, he said: "We have a set of users (Indian armed forces). We are working with them. We are manufacturing it. However, the issue of exports or other things has to be decided at the level of the Government of India."

"We have to keep on innovating and reinventing," he said, adding that Godrej Aerospace's work is commendable in the development of BrahMos.

"They have shown how a partnership works," he said.

BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile with a flight range of up to 290 km.

It carries a conventional warhead weighing 200-300 kg. It can cruise at an altitude of 15 km and as low as 10 metre above the ground and maintains supersonic speed (more than 1 km per second) throughout the duration of its flight.

Once the missile is fired, it doesn't need any guidance from a control centre. This makes it a 'fire and forget' missile.

Besides land-based targets, it can be fired from submarines and ships like the Talwar-class, Rajput-class and Sukhoi aircraft.

Things are going in the new era. Like Mig-21 was the hero of that era, and right now tech makes the stealth new one superhero. the wikipedia says that the Zircon Missile of the Russia is having the 'Plasma Stealth' and 1,000 km speed. if such tech would use in the Ballistic Missiles or in the Brahmos like missile, it would reach to new level cause if radar cant locate missile in even at last phase (terminal phase) at sea or target by radar, means distroying is confirmed. Tech will definetely make troubles for "superpowa" all nuke and missile power countries. ;)

The seeker technology, which determines the accuracy of a missile, is a closely guarded secret.

India’s supersonic cruise missile, Brahmos, was on Thursday successfully test-fired for the first time with an indigenous seeker. So far the seeker, a critical technology in missiles, came from DRDO.

“Formidable supersonic cruise missile BrahMos was successfully flight tested at 8:42 AM today at Pokhran test range, Rajasthan. The precision strike weapon with Indian-made seeker flew in its designated trajectory and hit the target with pin-point accuracy,” the Defence Ministry said on Twitter.

The seeker was developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, in collaboration with other DRDO labs.

The seeker technology, which determines the accuracy of a missile, is a closely guarded secret. Mastering it is a significant milestone in missile technology and would reduce import dependence.

BrahMos is joint collaboration between Indian defense companies and is capable of being launched from land, sea, sub-sea and air against surface and sea-based targets.

The range of the supersonic missile was initially capped at 290 km as per obligations of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). Since India’s entry into the club, the range has been extended to 450 km and the plan is to increase it to 600km.

The Army and Navy have already inducted the missile, while the air-launched version was test-fired for the first time last year from a modified Su-30MKI aircraft.

At present the missile system is 5-7 years ahead of the nearest competition from a development perspective, claims Brahmos Aerospace CEO and MD Sudhir Mishra.
Brahmos, the fastest missile in the world developed by India , will be breaching the mach 7 barrier to be a ‘hypersonic’ system in the next decade, a top official said.

“We will require seven to ten years from now to become a hypersonic missile system,” Sudhir Mishra, the chief executive and managing director of the joint venture company Brahmos Aerospace, told PTI in Mumbai over the weekend.

He said the missile, which currently travels at mach 2.8 or 2.8 times the speed of sound, will touch mach 3.5 soon and mach 5 in three years.

The current engine will have to be “tinkered” to achieve mach 5 and will have to be replaced to achieve hypersonic speed, he said.

The intent is to come out with a missile that will be able to deliver to the next-generation warfare, Mr. Mishra said.

Indian institutions, including the DRDO, IITs and Indian Institute of Science, are working on technologies which will help it achieve the goals, Mr. Mishra said, adding that Russian institutes are also into similar work.

He said the company, which has a majority 100% holding by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has an order book of over ₹30,000 crore at present.

Over the years, the basic missile system has been modified in a such a way that it can be fitted on various platforms, including ships, submarines, the Sukhoi-30 aircraft as well as land, for launch, he said.

Mr. Sharma claimed at present the missile system is 5-7 years ahead of the nearest competition from a development perspective.

“Today, this is the fastest cruise missile in the world. nobody including the U.S. has such a missile system,” he said.

Mr. Mishra said the engine, propulsion technology and seeker are developed by the Russians, while Indians do the control systems, guidance, software, airframes and fire control systems.

Over 70% of the components are manufactured using industry’s help, he said.

Mr. Mishra, however, also conceded that the missiles will be relevant for only 25-30 years and warfare will shift to newer tools like “high-power lasers and high-power microwave weapons” which will not require “kinetic weapon” systems.

India today successfully test-fired the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a test range along the Odisha coast to validate some new features.

The missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher stationed at Launch pad 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near here at 10.40 am, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials said.

The trial was conducted to validate its “life extension” technologies developed for the first time in India by DRDO and team BraHmos, said an official of the ITR.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratualated DRDO scientists and team BrahMos for the successful launch of BraHmos missile with new technology today. “Smt @nsitharaman congratulates Team Brahmos & @DRDO_India for successful flight test carried out at 1040 hrs on 21 May 2018 from ITR, Balasore to validate BRAHMOS missile life extension technologies developed for the first time in India,” her office said in a twitter post.

Two-stage missile

The successful test will result in huge savings of replacement cost of missiles held in the inventory of the Indian Armed Forces, it said.

The two-stage missile — first being solid and the second one, a ramjet liquid propellant — has already been introduced in the Army and Navy, while the Air Force version had witnessed successful trial, the DRDO scientists said. BrahMos variants can be launched from land, air, sea and under water. India successfully launched the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile from a Sukhoi-30 MKI combat jet for the first time against a target in the Bay of Bengal in November, 2017, they said.

The missile’s land and naval variants are already in service. At least two Su-30 squadrons with 20 planes each are planned to be equipped with the air-launch variant BrahMos missile, 500 kg lighter than land/naval variants. India has already extended the range of the three-tonne missile from its earlier 290 km to 400 km and successfully test-fired the variant in March 2017.

Increased range
Increasing the missile’s range from 400 km to further 800 km is now possible after India’s induction into the Missile Technology Control Regime in June 2016, they said. Prior to that, India was bound by restrictions that limited the range of the missile, which is an Indo-Russian joint venture product, to less than 300 km.

Currently the Army is equipped with three regiments of Block 111 version of Brahmos missile. Induction of the first version of BrahMos missile system in Indian Navy began with INS Rajput in 2005. It is now fully operational with two regiments of the Army, said the scientists.

After two successful test trials of BrahMos missile from INS Kolkata in June 2014 and February 2015, the test firing from INS Kochi on September 30, 2015, had validated the newly commissioned ship’s systems. The air launch version and the submarine launch version of the missile system are in progress.

So far, the Army has placed orders for the BrahMos missile which are to be deployed by three regiments. Two of them are already operational. The last land-based trial was conducted from the same base on March 11, 2017 successfully.

The life extension test firing of BrahMos was conducted from a Static Inclined Launcher, proving the efficacy and longevity of the system which was witnessed by the Scientist from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and BrahMos.

The precision strike missile flew in its designated trajectory and the key components functioned perfectly.

Successive test firing of Brahmos Missile to validate Critical Indigenous Components

BrahMos, supersonic cruise missile was successfully test fired at 1145 hours today from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Balasore, Odisha. The missile was launched from a Mobile Autonomous Launcher (MAL) and successfully flew in its pre-set trajectory fulfilling its mission objectives.

In today’s launch the major subsystems manufactured indigenously under “Make in India” campaign were tested. “Through this launch the critical indigenous components including fuel management system and other non-metallic airframe components have qualified to form part of the missile” said DG (BrahMos) & CEO & MD, BrahMos, Dr Sudhir Mishra after witnessing the launch.

SA to RM & DG (Missiles & Strategic Systems) Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated the Scientists for successfully developing the multiple sections of BrahMos and proving them in the mission.

Chairman DRDO & Secretary Department of Defence R&D Dr S Christopher congratulated Team DRDO and BrahMos on the successive successful flight test and said that a major milestone has been achieved in the indigenisation of BrahMos.

BrahMos is a joint venture between DRDO of India. The highly versatile BrahMos has been operationalised in the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

BRAHMOS has established itself as a major force multiplier in modern-day complex battlefields with its impeccable land-attack, anti-ship capabilities with multi-role and multi-platform abilities.
