Army officer in trouble for praising Narendra Modi:Where's right to speak ?

What Manekshaw did to Indira was small compared to Mr. vajpayee when he called Indira as Maa Durga.

Now institutions are much more strong and independent compared to Indira gandhi's time. During her time, many institutions compromised. The president of India was subservient to her.
Example:. judiciary, Election commission, Press, office of president.

It is relevant. When Manekshaw praised her, that was out of the backing she provided to him while he was planning and executing the defeat of Pakistan. So he was right then to appreciate the PM given the war situation at that time. So, when somebody tried to compare his praise for Indira to the praise for Modi, then definitely that was irrelevant. My premise is based on that irrelevant comparison.

Well here's a story. i watched the interview of Sam Manekshaw. My whole family is his huge fan...

Right before the war, Indira Gandhi called Sam Manekshaw and asked him to led the assault to East Pakistan. Manekshaw said, he can't. On this Indra Gandhi got angry. He then told her, you want to solve the problem of East Pakistan, i will deliver you East Pakistan but you don't interfere in my work same as i will never interfere in yours. He later told that Indra Gandhi when asked him to led the assault, monsoon was almost there and it could change the direction of battle. So he wanted to wait until winter and then led the assault. And look we won a great victory. He said in his interview that he had everything planned. He even said, he wanted US to get involved in that war, so that we could beat US also, but luckily for US that didn't happened.

Indra Gandhi was one of the most powerful leaders we can ever havebut same was Sam Manekshaw. It was believed that Sam Manekshaw had a strong backing from armed forces. If he wanted to act like his conterparts in Pakistan, he could have easily overthrown the Government and ruled but that was never the intention of that great General.

I just wanted to say that Sam Manekshaw didn't needed any kind of backing or approval on the contrary he was so powerful that Indra Gandhi had to support him because of what powerful Generals were doing in Pakistan.

According to me, now dragging that GOC is questioning the integrity of IA. IA could have very easily said that it was the personnel opinion of the GOC and not the official stand of IA. IA has nothing to do with Mr. Modi. What was wrong in that ?? This new development clearly indicates how much control these political parties have on IA. I don't think he did anything wrong. Whoever meets Modi is awestruck by his way of work, his personality, his decision making. India will never get leaders like Indra Gandhi again but whatever we got, modi is the best. I am not saying this because i am pro-BJP or because of what happened to Muslims in Gujrat, i am saying this because he is doing development in Gujrat. I would like him to be the CM of my state and majority of the people thinks the same.

Seems you worship sam. You overestimate the capability of an army general in taking on a civilian leadership, that too Indira Gandhi.
I have read the above story too, but I guess it is from the same man. You can read Lt Gen Jacobs account about Sam, that may change your mind.

And now you worship modi too.
Nobody is denying that he has done good development for gujrat. All I am saying, armymen should stick to their job, they can ask help and praise CM's office, but not individual politicians. That would start a dangerous trend of politician interference in appointments of army posts too. Cant you see that.

I would rather have an India which moves slowly than one where the military intervenes . give me one example where they caused a positive spin to a democratic way of life?
in our neighborhood there have been many countries ruled by the military and the world sees them as unstable and despots regimes.
so once again i am in favor of the armed forces staying professional fighting forces and not indulging in politics.

Turkey, Fiji, and Thailand are al areas where the military has ensured democracy and development at the same time. Just because India is growing doesn;t mean these Politicians are good. They're looting india by bleeding the National Exchequer.

Sorry, call it my blind belief but I prefer even corrupt politicians to benevolent dictators.
Military has lower accountability and transparency, hence more chance of corruption.
Secondly, meddling in politics, they will lose focus on their task, gang up with their favourite politicians for promotion and perks.
Turkey, fiji and thailand are not best country to emulate.
In most western countries they are completely under civilian control, and have no role in politics.
