Army chief General Raheel Sharif began his farewell visits on Monday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The army chief who is set to retire this month, kicked off his farewell visits and addresses from Lahore. He is expected to visit Karachi and Peshawar soon.

I don’t believe in extension and will retire on due date: army chief

During his visit to Lahore, General Raheel addressed a gathering of Army and Rangers personnel.

“Accomplishing peace and stability has been no ordinary task. Our sacrifices and joint national resolve helped us off setting all odds against the country,” General Raheel said during his address.

Gen Raheel was appointed as the country’s 15th army chief on November 29, 2013. He is scheduled to relinquish his office on November 29 this year.

In January, the Pakistan Army rubbished reports that the army chief would seek to extend his tenure from three to four years. “Speculations about extension in service of COAS are baseless,” the ISPR Director General Lt-General Asim Saleem Bajwa said in a Twitter message. While quoting the army chief, ISPR said national interest is supreme and will be safeguarded at all costs.

‘Govt to name new army chief in a week’

Further, the Islamabad High Court dismissed in October a petition seeking to elevate the current Army Chief General Raheel Sharif to the rank of field marshal.

Justice Aamer Farooq stated that the petitioner’s contention regarding the elevation to the post of field marshal” falls within the domain of the legislature and no direction can 144% be issued to the legislator to this effect”.

So he is going to retire on time. Will all those that were saying that he is behind the LOC flare up and all those naval and videos are fake to get an extension, would they please hang their heads in shame for two minutes.

Although I personally don't want to see him go and wanted him to get the field marshal ( the tribal elders as well since he visits them every month and has created a great bond between them and the army) however its better for the institution if he does retire and showcase that the army was never a one man game but the might of an institution who has as much capable officers if not more capable then general raheel sharif.

Let's bid a farewell to the soldier who served us well.

A great, balanced, humble and selfless officer. He has indeed served Pakistan more than his job discription. We forget COAS is also a human and there is only so much one individual could do, fighting on multiple and multi layered fronts. He did his bit and now passed on the torch to the next one. Farewell soldier, you have raged well against the dying of the light.

Reminds me of how everyone was praising Kiyani during his retirement and started cursing him a few months later... Ill wait and see if the same thing happens again...
