Army Chief apprises President of winter exercise


Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2012 (BSS) - Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan today apprised President Zillur Rahman that Bangladesh Army will conduct a six-week long winter exercise in different parts of the country from November 26 by paying a call on him at Bangabhaban today.

During the meeting, the Army chief apprised the President that medical core of Bangladesh army will provide medical treatment to rural people at free of cost while engineering core will repair rural roads throughout the exercise period.

General Bhuiyan also apprised the President, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, of various ongoing modernization programmes of Bangladesh Army.

He informed the President that Bangladesh Army has constructed two large bridges in Ruma and Thanchi in Chittagong Hill Tracts that will be opened to traffic on 17th of this month.

The Army chief informed that communications with remote parts of the CHT would be easier after opening of the two bridges.

He also apprised the President that Bangladesh army has started mobile banking in collaboration with Trust Bank so that army personnel can send money to their families in a fast and an easy manner. President Zillur Rahman expressed his satisfaction over the welfare oriented activities of Bangladesh army.

Concerned Secretaries of the President office were present.
