Armoured Thrusts, Pivotal Support Elements for Better Results

.
If PAF decides to support PA in such campaigns then success in enemy territory is possible.
Even if Air cover is given let's say, how will such a big armored force be supplied? Also note you will take casualties even before reaching the enemy in such terrain in terms of equipment breakdowns, hence why the attrition will be quite bad especially in such terrain such as Thar's. Overall this whole plan will simply, stretch supply lines to a breaking point, expose and risk isolation of forces, stretch thin your frontline. There is not much strategic justification to justify such a large offensive for what, Bikaner? Maybe it is justifiable via Jaisalmer axis in shortening the frontline but the casualty and supply issues will outweigh the benefits it would bring in my opinion.

Whether its a regiment, brigade or a division, without aircover it wont survive for long in enemy territory. Going by your post, the offensive-defensive pattern gets abolished straightaway.

Feasible, however, you missed an important and formidable obstacle...The Indira Canal...it has been made specifically to defeat whatever you just proposed...

This may sound like a stupid question but I couldn’t resist not asking
What’s stopping us from doing a kargil 2.0 while China is bashing india on lac and India internally is facing many problems moreover recently in Kashmir many Indian soldiers being killed by freedom fighters especially in poonch?
Isn’t this the best time to take advantage of the situation india is in and do a kargil 2.0? India isn’t in the position to fight a full scale war with us so we can do it?

why would you concentrate an attack through the Thar and into Rajastan
when there is a perfectly good eastern punjab much closer to our industrial centers.

My point is that even if Air cover is provided and you deny IAF any space to operate, ground forces would still suffer badly in such inhospitable terrain, especially via supply issues. Sure you will suffer less losses via the air but losses nonetheless needlessly and this is without even factoring that there would be dogged resistance from the Indian side and a strong counterattack. In the end let's say you even reach Indira canal, you would have exhausted so much equipment and supply that any crossing would be futile and your forces would be exposed. So any further offensives from there would probably not accomplish much. Maybe you could use Indira Canal as a forward defensive position yourself when you reach it but, the supply issues will cause havoc and would favor India in this regard as theirs would have become shorter and they have better infrastructure on their side of the canal via Bikaner and Jaisalmer.

This is why tactics, strategy, logistics management and other military topics are studied and practiced in the field as well as different terrains during exercises. Otherwise there is no point of conducting exercises and wasting fuel and other resources in peacetime. Reinforcements and reserve forces are another factor.
