Argentina Considering To Purchase 12 JF17C Worth 664Million Dollars

The main prob with the f16 being offered by the u.s is the fact that they are toothless like the Egyptian f16. No long range a2a missile plus dont think the u.s would offer the harpoon block 2...so it also means no hms so no high offbore missiles like aim 9x.
All in all a crap deal.

While with jf 17 it comes with all the bells n whistles attached plus more...in addition to local assembly....in today's world thats as good as it gets

America will buy argentine generals just like it owns Pakistani generals

yep, but I seriously doubt that any military generals can be as sell-able / treachery material other than Pakistani generals.

If Argentina is smart, they can use this opportunity to gain favor from the US and ask for 5-10 newer F-16s along with the 3-4 decades old F-16s being offered. If only older planes are being offered than its a bad deal for argentina even if done in very less cost.

Hi,

For those talking about that capabilities of the JF-17---just understand it in this manner.

As hard as the americans try to cancel this deal between the JF17 & pakistan---that much concern they have as to how much potent and deadly this fighter aircraft is for the region---.

If this was a nothing aircraft---US would not be offering its upgraded F16's to argentina and would not have shown so much force to have the deal cancelled---.

Say what you want - when Nigeria & Myanmar are the only customers with total of 20 aircraft you are not scaring anyone. Do you want any tidbits on the professionalism of those militaries ?

For PAF it is simple. Other than the F-16s they do not have any choices - Mirage III, Mirage-V, J-7 are 1960s era combat aircraft. Rafale and Typhoon cost $200 million per aircraft. The Flankers and MiG-35s cost $100 million per aircraft with inferior subsystems. Building a domestic platform is too expensive and time consuming,

Even state of the art planes are no good from America because they can sanction them anytime. Chosing US weapons is a bad bad bad move

MiG-35 or J-10 are the only logical choice for Argentina to have a credible offense against Brits.

For starters ac being offered are block 30.....I think .....from ang stocks....for brand new ac the Argentinian will have to wait atleast till 2031-32....a wait they are not willing for.plus the u.s is not offering them in the first place

Well for starters the Argentinian generals r not calling the shots plus in the high Archie they are down the food chain.

But who ever is calling the shots has not sold him self yet.

The United States gave the green light to a sale of 24 F-16 fighter aircraft equipped with air-to-air missiles from Denmark to Argentina and is working on a financing package for 40 million dollars to facilitate the purchase by the government Argentina, an operation of enormous geopolitical impact in which Washington competes directly with China, which has offered the sale of JF-17 aircraft from Pakistan.

The Government must now decide whether to carry out this operation, whether to accept China’s offer, or whether to postpone any decision to modernize the Air Force and Navy fleet. In addition to the F-16 sale, the US government also paved the way for a purchase of four P-3 aircraft from Norway.”

Resnick clarified that the transfer does not require approval from the United Kingdom, which has maintained a veto on Argentina for purchasing military equipment since the Falklands War, because no components require British approval.

I don't think Argentina can say no to F-16s. Old but pretty much puts them at par with regional powers like Brazil and Chile -although JF-17s might have provided them better capabilities-. Plus going the Falcon way also keeps them float along smoothly with IMF

Anything American is a death trap if you want to use it without any restriction against your enemy. Argentinians would be fool even if they get F35s from US against Brits.

.
Looks like Argentina's hand has been forced as was the case with Nigeria Malasia and Iraq. To make inroads in to the international market for fighter jets Pakistan needs to set up a production facility in Saudi Arabia.

. . . .
The most critical issue with Argentina is total collapsed economy. The old F-16s are coming at a very cheap price. Its better than nothing. Though those will never get AESA upgrades or Stand off weapon / anti-ship etc. But honestly, Argentina is not even looking to get those capabilities at this stage. Argentina just want to rebuild its airforce. They want a supersonic aircraft that they can scramble to do air-patrols. Argentina is in no position to pose a threat to the falklands even if it would have gone ahead with JF-17s. It will take Argentina to buy 100s of fighter aircrafts and whole list of capabilities to be able to reach that point. So their only goal is defensive in nature and very basic requirements. So likely they will go for a cheaper option.
