So both of my parents are from mirpur originally and our caste is bains rajput and i noticed that our culture is very similar to punjabi's and even our language is and that even mirpur and bhimber was once part of punjab so why are we called kashmiris and my mother said we are pahari people and not koshur or kashmiri people and i done a bit of research and i found out that koshur people are dardic but when i asked relatives they say we are not punjabi but we are kashmiris but some say we are pahari so what are we classed as?

What about pahari people because that land has been with our family for centuries and we don't speak pubjabi and many people from our area find it a bit difficult to understand it.

Punjabi is closer to pahari than koshur. Its an accident of history that you are within the confines of J and K, otherwise the pahari areas would have been a different region

You are kashmiri only if your bloodline is kahsmiri i.e you have ethnic Kashmiri origin .. It dont matter where you live as a pashtuns or punjabi will remain a pashtun or Punjabi no matter if they move in kahsmir valley or balochistan ..by the way most resident of Azad kahsmir are not ethnically kashmiri.
Your pahari/mirpuri language is not similar to Punjabi but to photohari and Hindko and others languages with lahnda dialects so many photohari live in jhelum Rawalpindi understand you well . Bihimber was occupied mainly by the Chib Rajputs prior to 1947 and they speak mixture of pahari and punjabi.

I can understand most dialect of Punjabi and can easily communicate with all but Photohari, pahari and Hindko have more similarity while siraiki is bit different for example let see how they say " where are you going " in these languages

Photohari/pahari: Kuthey julyaan hain
Hindko: Khita Julian Hain
Sairaiki : kithan wainday piyaan
Punjabi: kithe janda hain

I would say it Kahty wena piyan, while my Unlce would say .... Kathy Julan
we are a Hindko speaking family

the point I was making every language changes dialect about 100 miles so you cant name it a different dialect not a different Language...and now that the travel is so common they are all mixed up....they are all Punjabi Languages.

The thing is, what we call Azad Kashmir was only a part of the Kingdom of Jammu and Kashmir, it isn't actually culturally or ethnically part of Jammu and Kashmir region. Only those who migrated from those regions in to "Azad Kashmir" from Kashmir are ethnically Kashmiris in my view. But personally I much prefer to call myself only a Pakistani and only call myself Kashmiri when Indians attempt to dismiss my opinion as that of "other".

Pakistan is a federation. There may be many ethnic groups present and all of them are accepted as Pakistanis.
