General Musharraf appears finally to have realised that as a country that is part of the subcontinent and whose destiny is linked with the Indus-Gangetic area, Pakistan would never be accepted as part of West Asian Islamic states.

The question is, may be General Musharraf realized this but has Pakistan as a country realized it as well?

I don't know the answer. I think many of them, especially the ruling elites still have to realize it or at least internalize it, think it through, realize its implications and put that in policies.

even pakistan with all it's problems and negative image is more progressive than arabs atleast we've made major steps towards self reliance and have been one of the pioneers of the muslim world -only muslim nuclear power, first muslim country to elect women leader, first country to produce nobel prize winner in science ,multiple presidents and prime ministers from minority islamic sect (shia),women fighter pilots, multiple high ranking women diplomats,jf-17,national women sports teams and athletes, multiple cricket world cup, squash and hockey winners and first muslim country to build it's own satellite while arabs in modern times haven't done ANYTHING and still living off oil and south asian slave labour........

So true....I only wish we as Indians and pakis and Banglas and even sir lankans could put aside our differences and come together!

The sad part is how many Pakis can never marry an Arab but Arabs can buy women by the dozen and do what they plz

As for the article. With all due respect, we Pakistanis never had a war against Arabs or have any long-lasting disputes with Arabs, nor did the Arabs break Pakistan in 1971 so please dont compare our relationship with Indians to our relationship with Arabs.

Arab didn't break Pakistan ,Bengalis of East Pakistan did.

Pakistan is neither Arab nor Bengali. Moral of the story " there is no muslim Ummah " .

Every country is for herself , like rest of the world. Pakistanis should learn it sooner the better.

We are long overdue for a change in foreign policy, this particular policy is a continuation of the hellish idea that Bhutto and later Zia put us through.

This policy made us subservient to the hypocritical and weak Arabs at our own expense. In actuality, Bhutto's idea was to lead the 'Islamic' world and bring them forward, something which is impossible because sheeps only know how to follow.

Their ideology sifted to our society and brought along its superficial violent variance of Islam. Ever since then Pakistan lost all its charm and the admirable society it had developed.

As a moderator, I would reserve my comments about these Arabs and Persians, etc. But let me assure you what i have to say is not good and I hope that my fellow Pakistani's grow a pair to tell these people the way it is.

We should revisit our foreign policy and align ourselves with those nations who have made, are making positive contributions to the world. The time to change our flamed strategies and ultimately damaging this country has to be revisited.

What I do find interesting is the fact that the writer of this article is Zafar Hilaly, nephew of Agha Shahi and son Agha Hilaly, prominent diplomats who were a part of those who formulated this policy.

Time to change our foreign policy and regain our nation, resolving our issues with India would be a good start.

All arabs are not same. By paining them with same brush you run the risk of being called racist yourself.
Many arab people are tolerant and less religious than south asians.

Lets keep our focus, Prince Bandar, chairman of the Saudi NSC has made quick visit to Pakistan, take a guess who he is meeting - besides the usual courtesy paidf ot Prez and PM, Bandar is in Pakikstan to meet Gen. Kiyani (that's right the army doesn't run didly) -- and guess what the subject of hte conversation is likely to be (according to informed persons, see article on the Bahrain thread)

The Wahabi Takfiri seek to use the Pakistan Fauj to perpetrate a second Karbala ---- Ambassador Hilaly makes a great point, namely that Arabs have killed more Muslims then any so called infidel" and that they have been doing so since the first days of Islam.

Don't be silent about this, don't let the army leadership think that you agree with the sectarian genocide the Wahabi have plannd, first for Bahrain then for the eastern provinces of Arabia and then in Yemen, then Iraq ----- Pakistan and Pakistanis should assert loudly that as a Muslim majority, with a huge Christian population, the second largest and soon the largest Shi'ah Muslim country , that is to say a ethical and wanna be moral nation state, it is unacceptable to us that Wahabi perpetrate sectarian genocides.

Lets leave the Arabs to Arabs, our concern is with humanity in general and Muslims in particular, let the takfiri Wahabi go their own way and good riddance to them.

I agree, India is considered existential threat to pakistan. So it is obvious that it will search for ally on common ground.

A few points:

- In the original article, I fail to see what India has to do with Pakistan-Arab relations. Perhaps the author displays his own bias and hidden agenda when mentioning such irrelevancies. Pakistan's aim should be to safeguard Pakistani interests, and it's not a zero-sum game of chosing between Arabs and Indians.

- Racism exists in all societies, including Pakistani and Indian, so the self-righteousness on display here can be shelved. Each society indulges in its vices according to its abilities. The Arabs tend to do some things openly which other societies do under the radar. Similarly, the Americans achieve immense good as well as immense evil simply because their actions have magnified effect due to their power.

- The same people who berate Pakistanis for refusing to take responsibility and blaming America for our ills, then turn around and blame the Arabs. At the end of he day, it's corrupt Pakistani politicians who conspire with foreigners. They are the ones we need to -- indeed, the only ones we can -- hold accountable. It's no use railing at foreigners who are looking out for their own interests.

- As some posters have pointed out, it's wrong and racist to stereotype all Arabs like this. It has become all too common on PDF to allow such racist threads which, if the word Arab were replaced by Jew, would be condemned by all. Its one thing to blame the despotic Arab governments; it's quite another to blame Arabs generically as an ethnicity.

- I am neither pro, nor anti-Arab. I think Pakistan should maintain good relations with all groups.

There are many Pakistani Muslims who have been following the Wahabi and Salafi school of thoughts for generations and are peaceful Pakistani citizens, so dont be hating on Wahabis.

And dont forget that it was an Arab Muhammad Bin Qasim who introduced Islam to Pak Sarzameen.

Arabs got oil and Arabs helped Pakistan during the time US placed in sanctions on Pakistan. Hating on Arabs will only cause more problems for Pakistan. Pakistan can use Arab nations for our benefits as well.

Pakistan doesn't need more enemies, we already have enough.

i wish we sided with Iran instead

even under an islamic totalitarianship, at least they try to move forward in fields like education

instead of looking for a patron why not side with yourself?

what next - you want to be chinese?

Exactly, we have to only work with ourselves and no one else.

Everyone is secondary to Pakistan and these countries we tend to call 'brothers' are some of the most deprived and hated places in the world.

This has unfortunately seeped to our national identity too and we must learn to look out for our own interest not some faux brotherhood or friendship.

We should have limited relations with these countries and it should be based on mutual benefit not some odd sense of spiritual benefit.

Rubbish! That's meaningless dog doo do - Read the damn article and like the moderator says, "grow a pair" -- It's Arbis who have been shitting on the rest of the Muslim world ever since they got to eqate Islam with their empire --- Pakistanis have bent over backwards to help these peoole out, and in return have had our dignity and respect ocrapped on by these savages --- and then of course there is the smalll matter of perpetuating a sectarian genocide --- I don't know develpero, start think straight - cruel to be kind (in the right measure) , mean that we love them them, it is a kindness to wake them from this hubris and from sectarian hate and genocide -- Do you understand what they have in mind?? Will you want future genration sto recall Pakistani army under Wahabi ordrs, as those who perpetrated genocide on fellow Muslims?
