There's a growing perception that Western democracy is not a perfect form of government, and it won't fix everything, Michael Robbins, director of the Arab Barometer, was quoted as saying.

LONDON, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Arabs are losing faith in Western democracy to deliver economic stability across the Middle East and North Africa, the BBC reported on Sunday, citing a latest survey.

More than half of the 23,000 people interviewed across the region by the Arab Barometer network agree with the statement that an economy is weak under a Western democratic system, the report said.

There's a growing perception that Western democracy is not a perfect form of government, and it won't fix everything, the report cited Michael Robbins, director of the Arab Barometer, a research network based at Princeton University which worked with universities and polling organizations in the Middle East and North Africa to conduct the survey between late 2021 and spring 2022, as saying.

"What we see across the region is people going hungry, people need bread, people are frustrated with the systems that they have," Robbins said. Most respondents don't expect the economic situation in their country will improve in the next few years.

Xinhua is just playing with words...as usual. They know full well having some authoritarian in charge leads to even quicker corruption and less fair economic opportunities.

But it is not in their interest to point that out.

Not to mention, democracy is also an easy target for foreign countries to control country's politics using NGOs.

Look at the Philippines and Mexico, which have exactly the same system as the USA. Do you really think your system is perfect? With all due respect, if the USA had not accumulated the colonial era and the two world wars, you would not even be as good as India.

It isn't the exact same. For instance they vote for their Vice President independent of the President and the winner could be from a different party as the President causing immediate friction at the top.

The US is made up of 50 states and the representatives in Congress in both the Senate/House are from those states and are representing the people there. In the Philippines those elected officials can be from anywhere but mostly ending up being from the capital and representing those people's interests and thus alienating the people from the rest of the country. A second way of causing friction from the start.

You really have to look at the US as being similar to the EU where there are a bunch of countries having sometimes very different interests but being spoken for as a group. This is not what is going on in the Philippines.

I don't know where to begin with Mexico as they can't do anything correct.

So you have admitted democracy is not universal, haven't you? Why US spreads it then? Matter of fact, democracy even does more harm than good to US and EU. None of these countries became rich and powerful because they had democracy. The reasons democracy looks good are: 1)The first batch of counties that were armed by modern science in human history happened to be democratic. But science itself has nothing to do with democracy. It's an accumulation of thousans of years human wisdom and knowledges. Robbery is another reason why these countries became rich. 2) Before China's rise, democracy never met a real competitor. Soveit Union style communism was once a competitor. But it has more flaws than democracy. This is like a competition between two weak persons. The less weak one won.
