Are they sure ? They might cry over it like the one that they wanted in Libya and got imposed. Maybe they should impose such no fly zones themselves.
Arab league is run by same dumb idiots in the arab world it ain't different from arab govts - btw they cried over french bombing on civilian targets and it did happen - nothing wrong with that.
NATO has come under intense grilling over its lack of response to the killings of Libyan civilians by the regime forces amid fierce skirmishes in the western city of Misratah.
On Friday, four people, including two children, were killed and 10 others injured in Misratah, which lies 150 kilometers (93 miles) east of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, as the daily clashes continue to rage between opposition forces and pro-Gaddafi troops, AFP quoted a source in the revolutionaries' camp as saying on Saturday.
"Gaddafi forces continue to fire blindly on the houses of Misratah," said the source, adding that "Today, four martyrs fell, including two children under age four."
Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi's forces on Wednesday pounded the besieged city of Misratah with heavy artillery, killing at least five people and injuring 25 others. The bombardment forced the temporary closure of the city's port, which is a key route for supplies to civilians.
Jigs: what do you say about having a no fly zone over Gaza and UN peacekeeping force deployed there too to keep both parties at bay?
Sure it would be viable but it would be hard to get both parties to agree to it. There are U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon so something like that could happen in Gaza. It all depends.
However the Arab League asking for a no fly zone over Gaza won't happen. It would just hurt the Israeli side and the U.S. would never agree to such measures let alone Israel. Hamas could still fire rockets or attack civilians(like the recent school bus) also using the air force against Hamas will keep the civilian death toll lower then sending in ground forces.
Ceasefires have been contracted before with both sides blaming each other for breaking them. A U.N. peacekeeping force could result in the same thing.
A U.N peace force was deployed in Lebanon and Hezbollah has over 50000 rockets in their arsenal now. Before that they only had 4000 rockets, do you actually believe the U.N is worth anything?...
And who exactly will impose a no-fly zone when Israel has one of the deadliest and most skilled pilots in the world?
All the targets were military in nature. The only source that was reporting that civilian targets hit was their state run television for obvious reasons.
The only thing people are blaming NATO for is the rebels for not providing enough support.
No offense intended Jigs, my cynicism was directed towards those people who believed such a thing was possible. Problem is with that theory is that the Muslim bloc has majority in the UN and any Pro-Israeli resolutions no matter how just will be blocked. If you were to read my post i did say the no fly zone is not going to happen. And in my previous post i even made a sarcastic remark as to the Arab League doing it themselves.
As to the negativity to the U.N. they are a body that does agree with Israel blindly like the U.S. hence it is understandable many Israelis would view them as not credible. However they are credible to many. Peacekeepers would be worth a try especially for observing. If Hamas launched rockets not only would Israel be the one to break the news but the U.N. would come to the same conclusion and vice versa.
