Arab League says it cannot be in league with separatists in Kashmir

The powerful Arab League has dealt a severe blow to the separatists after it refused to take sides and speak on the Kashmir issue.

“Arab League has no position to speak on the Kashmir issue. We hope bloodshed ends and peace prevails,” Dr Ahmed Salem Al-Wahishi, Arab League ambassador said on the sidelines of a peace conference in Srinagar.

The statement comes 10 days after moderate Hurriyat Conference claimed that Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) has decided setting up of a human rights commission to probe the alleged abuses in Kashmir.

But the Arab League envoy’s statement is likely to relieve New Delhi since the members of the Arab states form the majority group within the OIC. Moderate Hurriyat Conference has observer status in the OIC.

Dileep Padgoankar, who heads the three member interlocutors’ team, said they have begun to see the light at the end of the tunnel. He however refused to comment on the suspension of former Hurriyat chairman Moulana Abbaas Ansari after his meeting with the interlocutors.

J&K governor NN Vohra, who was the chief guest at the conference, said the people of the state have a high stakes in peace and normalcy. “There is an imperative need for everyone to ponder over the unfortunate happenings of the last over two decades and take every required step to reverse the trend to restore the shining glory of the state,” he said.

We want peace in Jammu and Kashmir: Arab League

Srinagar, May 17 (IANS) The Arab League, an association of 22 Arab countries, looks forward to ‘peaceful coexistence’ in Jammu and Kashmir but has no specific position on the dispute between India and Pakistan, says its ambassador.

Addressing a peace conference here late Monday, Arab League Ambassador Ahmed Salem Al Wahishi said: ‘The League of Arab States has no specific position on the question of Jammu and Kashmir.’

‘We look forward to peaceful coexistence and tolerance in the whole region.’

The peace conference was organised by J&K Peace Foundation.

Jammu and Kashmir, Al Wahishi said, had passed through a violent situation of hatred and confusion for the last 20 years.

‘We want peace to last in West Asia, South Asia and the entire world.’

If the Arab League supports the notion that Israel has stolen land from the Palestinians, it should also support the notion that India has stolen land from the Kashmiris.

Anything else would be hypocrisy.

How many threads are running on the same subject??? Although I donot mind it as I cannot post on the Kashmir thread.

Its a tight slap on those who wanted Arabs and OIC to take up Kashmir issue, IMHO.

So obviously, it's hypocrisy - and.... so...??

Poor Pakistines, the arbis really seem to care for the them.

But then, look just for a minute, at who this OIC is, how could they possibly set a Human rights commission given their own records - I mean who would accept it coming from whether Monarchs, Dictators, religious nuts - all tyrants!

Guess after OBL raid, everyone wants to be considered different from separatists lest Americans plan to bring democracy there..

Geela-ni did a real good job by conducting prayers for OBL...:lol:

they are just short of supporting the notion that Pakistan stole the land from India

Give it some time these Arabs will be under Pakistani rule. They have made a mockery of Islam and its values.

So everybody wants to be safe now and play the game according to rules. Seems the AL isn't interested in 'the democracy' knocking on its door, well so it be.

The only other body of politicians more incompetent and irrelevant than the Pakistani politicians has to be the the Arab League. I mean this group of outstanding individuals are more useless that tits on a bull.:blah:
