Chinese consumers demand response from Apple to iPhone shutdowns
(People's Daily Online) 13:46, November 16, 2016

The China Consumers Association (CCA) has made an official query about iPhone shutdowns, asking Apple to give a response within 10 days. The response should address the reason why many iPhones are automatically shutting off, as well as offer a solution to the problem.

A considerable number of iPhone users have reported the sudden and unprompted shutdown of their devices. One iPhone 6 user stated that his iPhone automatically shut off despite its 40-percent battery charge at the time. Apple customer service representatives have pointed to cold temperatures and use of the phone while charging as possible causes of the issue. However, Chinese consumers are not satisfied with these explanations.

After receiving a high number of complaints, the China Consumers Association (CCA) has asked Apple to investigate the problem and its probable cause. In addition, Apple has been asked to provide a solution to the problem.

Now Apple is being headed by an idiot gay who has no taste and talent for innovation and technology. This idiot of gigantic proportions has the qualification in supply chain management and all of his focus is in multiplying the money and capitalise on the work, effort and talent of Steve Jobs.

Once a leading company, now apple is mere a follower while Android is getting more advanced by day day, apple products are getting mired into problems like as mentioned in OP which I believe is the results of some bug in new iOS as I didn't experience it previously but now my iPhone 6p gets sudden restarts at the most inopportune times.

Apple blames battery component
Shanghai Daily, December 3, 2016

Apple yesterday revealed for the first time that the unexpected shutdowns of "a small number" of iPhone 6S smartphones were due to a battery component that was exposed to controlled ambient air longer than necessary.

"We found that a number of iPhone 6S devices made in September and October 2015 contained a battery component that was exposed to controlled ambient air longer than it should have been before being assembled into battery packs," Apple said in a statement.

"As a result, these batteries degrade faster than a normal battery and cause unexpected shutdowns to occur," it said, adding that it is "not a safety issue."

"To help our customers who are experiencing this issue, we are replacing batteries in affected devices, free of charge," the statement said.

Apple suggested iPhone 6S owners, who want to know if their devices may shut down, type in the serial number on the iPhone 6S Program for Unexpected Shutdown Issues webpage.

It said iPhone is designed to shut automatically under certain conditions, such as extremely cold temperature, to protect the phone’s electronics from low voltage.

Apple’s statement came one day after Shanghai’s consumer rights protection commission made public the number of complaints, including several battery explosions, against Apple in the city this year.

The commission said it had received 1,221 complaints about Apple in the two months to November 30, which was nearly six times higher than the same period of last year.

The major problems reported were unexpected power-off issues, batteries combusting and stolen accounts, it said.

It said eight consumers had complained in the October-November period that their iPhones had suddenly combusted.

The China Consumers Association and the Shanghai commission have both asked Apple to provide solutions to consumers, saying unexpected power-off has also been found in iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6S Plus models, as well as on some other iPhone 6S models that were not made between September and October 2015.

Apple is now offering free battery replacement for iPhone 6S made between September and October 2015.

iPhone 8 greeted with less enthusiasm
(China Daily) 15:01, September 26, 2017

The magic of the iPhone brand seems to be fading in China as consumers in the world's largest smartphone market greeted Apple Inc's latest handsets with less than the usual level of enthusiasm.

The relatively weak response came as the country's homegrown brands, such as Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and Xiaomi Corp, are pushing up-market, experts said.

On Monday, in Beijing's Sanlitun Soho, the capital's popular shopping area, Apple's flagship store experienced a slimmer turnout with only one short line of people queuing outside the store to get a try for iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, which went on sale on Friday.

Inside the store, there were crowds of customers surrounding the desk, but many were there to test the models rather than expressing a commitment to buy. And the store still had plenty of space for more consumers.

The response was in stark contrast to previous years, when hundreds of people hustled and bustled in the stores and queues of people circled around outside.

A security guard at the Apple store said: "The lines are far shorter than those of previous years. I had always been extremely busy when new flagship gadgets were released, but I am apparently not so occupied this year."

Also, not many scalpers were seen outside the store and they are not enthusiastic this year as they didn't rush to solicit businesses.

"We didn't sell much today, even with 100 or 200 yuan ($15-30) off," said a scalper outside an Apple store.

Jia Mo, an analyst at global consultancy Canalys, said consumers have less enthusiasm toward the new iPhone 8 this year. One of the reasons is that local rivals including Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi can give users a better experience by offering high-end features with a lower price," he added.

Xiang Ligang, CEO of telecom industry website Cctime, said the iPhone is still one of the most preferable high-end devices in China, though far less popular than before, amid mounting competition from local players.

Charlie Zhang, who bought an iPhone 8 on Monday, said he opted out of domestic smartphones, because they are running on Android systems that are easy to crash.

"This Is Embarrassing": 2 People Show Up For iPhone 8 Launch in China

ZeroHedge - 2017-09-22

Confirming reports that reception for Apple's newly launched iPhone 8 may be "underwhelming" to put it lightly, as the phone provides little if any material improvement over its lower-priced predecessor even as sales for hardcore fans will be cannibalized by the iPhone X, is the following report from Hangzhou, China which shows that all of 2 people were waiting in line for the latest gizmo from Tim Cook.

As Chinese media reports, summarized by David Kersten, "note the barricades for the anticipated queue...

... that had to be put away because only 2 people showed up."

Some more details:

I've C&P'd this article, clumsily translated by Google, because, being from a Chinese site, it doesn't adapt well to the Facebook environment, however, the link is provided as are the pictures.

"Embarrassing! IPhone 8 today, Hangzhou, security guards are busy removing the fence.

September 22, the launch of iPhone 8 officially opened in the major channels. Hangzhou Apple West Lake shop, more than six in the morning to thirty or forty security. According to Hong Kong media, and the mainland, Hong Kong, Apple shop customers are no more than the store's employees."

With the iPhone 8 a dud, at least in China, AAPL longs are hoping that the reception for the iPhone X in a few weeks will be notably more enthusiastic, or else Apple may have a major problem on its hands.

Worried About Demand, Apple Tells iPhone X Suppliers To Slow Down Component Delivery

ZeroHedge - Sep 25, 2017 7:29 AM

Following an embarrassingly dull rollout of the iPhone 8 last week, Apple's woes may be spreading to its flagship gizmo for the current product cycle, the iPhone X.

As Digitimes reports, Tim Cook's company has instructed component suppliers to "withhold part of the component shipments prepared for the production of iPhone X devices" according to unidentified Taiwan-based upstream suppliers.

The reason for the delay is that Apple is waiting to see the pre-sale orders of the iPhone X as well as the sales performance of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus before pushing the production of iPhone X into full gear, said the sources.

The sources explain that iPhone X component suppliers are currently shipping parts and products that amount to only about 40% of the quantities originally planned for the initial production of iPhone X. However, despite the instruction for shipment slowdown, some suppliers still need to step up production to meet the 40% requirement due to low yield rates at their production lines, the sources indicated. Apple is said to have adopted the same strategy previously for iPhone 7 in 2016 - a phone which met with lackluster demand - during which initial shipments of parts and components reached only about 60% of the materials originally required by the vendor, with sources adding that Apple pulled in the remaining 40% of orders 1-2 months later.

Meanwhile, as Bloomberg reports this morning, in a double-whammy for Apple suppliers, their stocks have gotten hit in recent days on what is perceived as market disappointment with the company's latest product offering: on Monday Hon Hai fell 2.8 percent in Taipei, while Pegatron slumped 4.4 percent. TSMC dropped for a third day. AAC Technologies Holdings Inc., another supplier, retreated 6.7 percent in Hong Kong, and GoerTek Inc. capped its biggest loss since July 3 in China’s Shenzhen.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., which assembles the iPhone and other Apple devices, has fallen 10 percent in Taipei since Apple unveiled its collection of new gadgets for the holidays this month. Other suppliers across the region, including Taiwan’s Pegatron Corp. and South Korea’s LG Innotek Co. have plunged more than 12 percent. Taiwan’s $1.1 trillion equity market is particularly exposed to the swinging fortunes of Apple products, due to the dominance of parts manufacturers. Hon Hai and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Apple’s main chip-maker, together make up a quarter of the Taiex total weighting, while exports account for more than half of the island’s gross domestic product.

"Orders of the new IPhone have disappointed the market and foreign investors may continue net selling Taiwan stocks," said Alan Tseng, Taipei-based vice president at Capital Investment Management. "The retreat of Apple suppliers has pulled down the benchmark index and could drag the index even lower in the coming month.

As a reminder, a channel check conducted last week by Rosenblatt Securities found that iPhone 8 pre-orders are "substantially lower" than iPhone 7 and iPhone 6 levels, with initial feedback suggesting that iPhone 8 volume is below predecessors in the U.S. and even more so in China.

Also we need to remember that at least Huawei has a big launch to correspond with the timing of Apple's.

Just wait for Huawei launches its latest flagship Mate 10 Series on October 16th, 2017.

"Huawei’s Kirin 970 processor has a focus on AI functions such as voice and image recognition, thanks to its neural processing unit. The Mate 10 will be the first handset to use the Kirin 970 mobile chipset, and like the A11, it's built on a 10-nanometer process."
