Apple loses its Chinese smartphone crown, slips to third place

Hopefully 'Others' increases to 30% or more. :)

Its called market adaptation. Its actually similar to Japanese martial art style of Aikido; use the opponent's own Ki to one's own advantage.

In that respects, the more China increases sales, the more we use it back. Keep it up, keep it up.

Good for us, good for you, good for us, too. ;)

I remembered posting somewhere about East Asian supply chain of cell phone in details? Anyway true that whatever brand is selling the whole supply chain in East Asia (to a lesser extent in Germany) benefits, including upstream vendors in Japan. And you are right, compared to Chinese/Korean brands that seem to respond faster to market demands, some major Japanese vendors are re-positioning themselves to component making, an area that they still hold competitive advantage, hence profit.

East Asia is getting more and more integrated, driven by pragmatism of business needs.

Back on topic, congrats to those brands making progress! A key takeaway from Apple's story for mobile brands is that business success is not just based on tech/manufacturing prowess but brilliant marketing, an area East Asians (Japanese, Korean & Chinese all included) lag significantly compared to counterparts in US. In Apple's case, unique skills include industrial design (Steve Jobs is brilliant, Samsung is also good), an enclosed ecosystem of developers, hi switching cost (for user), hi market barrier, excellent supply chain management (Tim Cook is good at this), etc. Wish more East Asian brands excel in strategy & marketing!

One of the reasons that apple market shares dip might be that Apple started to collect personal data of Chinese users from last August. Many Apple-fans are concerned about their privacy. Apple could submit users' data to Chinese or US government upon request.

Apple's no longer the top smartphone maker in China

After dipping for two quarters, Xiaomi reclaimed its spot as the top smartphone maker in China during the second quarter, beating Apple and Huawei, an analyst firm said Monday.

Based in Beijing, China, Xiaomi grabbed 15.9 percent of the country's mobile market share, according to research firm Canalys' estimates.

Xiaomi can bask in the glow of victory for now, but it's under immense pressure to maintain its top position in the quarters to come, Jingwen Wang, analyst at Canalys, said in a note Monday.

Huawei was a close second with a 15.7 percent market share. That represents an increase of about 48 percent sequentially, making it the fastest-growing mobile vendor in China's top 10, Canalys said.

Apple, which held the top spot in the previous quarter, fell to third place, followed by Samsung.

"Apple and Samsung have both increased their sales activities in the China market, expanding rapidly in channel coverage through flagship stores and small to medium-size phone retailers, respectively," Wang said.

A separate report released Friday by Counterpoint ranked Xiaomi in first place, with a 15.8 percent market share, followed by Huawei at 15.4 percent and Apple at 12.2 percent.

China's overall mobile market declined 2 percent from a year ago and 4 percent sequentially, dragged by a muted economic environment, smartphone market saturation and a lack of product related catalysts, according to Counterpoint's analysis.

Counterpoint said Xiaomi's China business benefited from clearing out older inventory left in the market and refreshing its portfolio with newer LTE models.

Xiaomi, which released its 5.7-inch Mi Note late last month, recently partnered with Uber in a deal that will allow users to order the Chinese company's new device through the taxi-hailing app.

Xiaomi and Uber are the world's two highest-valued private tech companies, worth $46 billion and $51 billion respectively. Xiaomi is one of the world's largest smartphone makers, and much of its success has been built on the way it has marketed its devices online and sold through online channels.

The company was rumored to be exploring an initial public offering, but Hugo Barra, vice president of Xiaomi's global operations, told CNBC last week there are no IPO plans for the "foreseeable future."

Apple, Xiaomi Samsung and Huawei did not respond to CNBC's requests for comment.

I'm going to Play BPhone from Viet girls!

:smitten::smitten:
Vietnam BPhone will beat Apple as World N.o1 ... this remind me another China smartphone maker: 锤子手机 ... 真是卖了个锤子!Nothing else just a commercial exploitation.

Apple design the A-xxx CPU for Iphones, HuaWei also design Kylin CPU for their smartphones ... HuaWei was doing what Apple did before, that's the right way !

Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi may unveil the Redmi Note 2 at an event scheduled for 16 Aug. Previously, it was speculated the company would release the MIUI 7 in their forthcoming August event.

A post shared on Chinese blog MobiPicker says, that Xiaomi’s vice-president of marketing Tony Wei has confirmed on his Weibo account, that a press conference will be held in Beijing on Aug. 16. Referring to Wei’s post on Weibo, Wang Yang, technology director of IHS China mentioned that in this event Xiaomi could launch its brand new Redmi Note 2. Aug. 16 is traditionally a day when Xiaomi meets the press and offers special deals on its phones and accessories.

Chinese wireless regulator TENNA recently certified the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and revealed its prospective specifications. The device is expected to have two versions, both sporting a 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 resolution Full HD display. An octa-core 2GHz CPU will be driving the phone. The phone will be equipped either with the Snapdragon 615 SoC or would use the MediaTek MT6795 SoC to power the model, reports Phone Arena.

Redmi Note 2 will be packed with 2GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage which will be joined by a microSD card slot, expandable up to 64GB. The battery inside will be sized at 3020mAh lithium-polymer battery. As reported by iDigital Times, in the camera department, the phone will feature a 13 megapixel rear snapper with Led flash, along with a 5 megapixel front unit. The connectivity and networking features include WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB port, 3G and 4G (selected markets). And the software running on the Redmi Note 2 will be Android 5.0 Lollipop covered by Xiaomi’s MIUI. The Redmi Note 2 measures 152.05 × 76.2 × 8.05mm, and weighs 158.62 grams. Other rumors point to an all-metal body and a fingerprint scanner.

Ah yes, these names sound familiar. They're actually clients for Japanese Electronic Supply Companies.

Anyways, like i said before, keep it up, grow, grow ! ;)

Almost all cellphone manufacturers are our customers,” said Tsuneo Murata, president of Murata, which makes capacitors and other components. “The pie for the component demand is growing.”

The Chinese people can not wait for new models which have minor changes and one has to wait for one year to buy them. It is only when Apple will launch new hardware advancements unseen in other phones that it will see an increase in its market share. Also the security risks that were seen in Apple's cloud and photo leaks etc has gotten most Government officials to stop using apple and move on to other Chinese brands which are more secure in their eyes.

Well that is impressive, to be able to supply parts for so many sets. Japan and it's technological prowess continue to amaze me.

Backing up stuff to an icloud server is about as secure as your email account.
I have an iPhone but don't use iCloud (as I don't have an iCloud account). It isn't a necessity.

Right, In most of smartphone, there are Japanese component, .

Here is talking about smartphone terminal market, before occupied by Nokia, Sunsung, even some Japanese company, but now, China companies do well, the market is there, so, even not China companies do, other will, they also will use Japanese component, that part is you earned, but Now, China earn some that maybe earned by Nokia and Japanese companies.

Infact, the market share of component Japan companies occupy is down, because more Chinese and Korean companies join, and Japanese component is good, but not that good, CPU, Screen is not occupied by you Japanese, like home applicance market, China occupy the terminal market first, then upstream of the supply chain, it is just beginning, maybe not easy, but also not that hard.

And, I suggest you, boast of production equipment is better, because of in the dormain, you have bigger advantage, but I also said, it is just beginning, you are good, but the trend is not changed, you are down.
