ISLAMABAD: A powerful explosion on Thursday hit Faizabad bridge just after the convoy of the former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf passed by it, DawnNews reported.
Musharraf was being shifted late night from the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) to his farmhouse when the huge blast occurred just after the convoy crossed the bridge.
According to sources, almost four to six kilogram of explosive material was planted in a pipeline of a nearby footpath.
The intensity of the blast caused about a foot deep hole in the ground at the site of the incident.
Moreover, the police claimed that the attack was aimed to target the former president.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Afterwards, Musharraf was transferred safely to his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad area.
The former military dictator was admitted to the AFIC on Jan 3 when he was on his way to a special court set up for his high treason trial for abrogating the constitution and detaining judges in 2007.
However, the general’s convoy took a detour to the hospital in Rawalpindi when he suddenly started suffering from chest pain.
Earlier, the officials in the capital police, interior ministry and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said
Musharraf’s personnel security in-charge visited the farmhouse and security around his farmhouse in Islamabad is also being enhanced over his expected arrival there.

ISLAMABAD: The government has rejected former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s application seeking removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL), DawnNews reported.
The Interior Ministry has also formally notified Musharraf in this regard.
Sources said the former president will approach the High Court in order to seek removal of his name from the ECL. It is also expected that an application will be submitted in the Sindh High Court.
Earlier on Monday, the special court which
indicted Musharraf for high treason charges had put the ball in the government's court in relation to the request put forward by the former president to be allowed to travel abroad.
The court had also granted Musharraf exemption from appearing in the case's hearings saying the accused could be ordered to appear in court whenever required.
The decision had said that as long as the accused was not in custody, he could seek medical treatment at any place of his choice, adding that an accused could not be restrained from travelling nor could his/her rights as a human being be curtailed for any reason.
However, the court had added that removal of Musharraf's name from ECL was not the prerogative of the special court as it had not ordered for the inclusion of his name in the list in the first place.
