Musharraf not indicted during court appearance

ISLAMABAD: Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf appeared before the special court constituted to hear his case.

Pervez Musharraf was not indicted during proceedings. The special court will announce its verdict on if the former president should be tried in a military court on Friday.

More than more than 1,000 security officials were deployed from Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) where Musharraf was admitted, to special court for his security.

According to sources Musharraf left the AFIC on his own risk as doctors were not allowing him to leave the hospital. He signed the medical certificate himself for leaving the facility.

Earlier, the Special Court had reserved its verdict for conducting treason trial of former president Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharraf under Army Act.

Musharraf had been summoned by the special court on February 18.

In the previous hearings the former military dictator had not appeared before the court but he could faces non-bailable arrest warrants if he failed to appear today.

CHITRAL, Feb 21: Most of the people of Chitral continue admiring former president Pervez Musharraf not only for launching mega projects such as the Lowari Tunnel but also for cherishing their values and patriotism.
In admiring and supporting the former president at a time when most of the country is after him, women of Chitral are also not behind and Shahida Sahar is one of them. A vocal human rights activist and social worker of Chitral, Shahida Sahar says that the people of Chitral never forget their benefactors. She says that the Lowari tunnel project was initiated by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and completed by Musharraf, so both are taken in high esteem by the people of Chitral. Had Musharraf not been banned from taking part in elections, he would have scored 100 per cent votes on May 11, 2013, she says.

Shahida Sahar also prayed for the acquittal of Musharraf in all the cases so that he may become the president of Pakistan once again. She said it was the misfortune of the people of Chitral that Musharraf could not take part in the elections otherwise the condition of Chitral would have been changed.

ISLAMABAD: An additional sessions court on Saturday in Abdul Rasheed Ghazi murder case granted exemption for today to former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf and summoned him in its next hearing on March 15, DawnNews reported.

The capital city’s additional sessions court judge Wajid Ali heard the case.

During the hearing, Musharraf’s lawyer requested for permanent exemption for Musharraf in the cleric killing case.

Subsequently, the court decided to discuss the matter of permanent exemption for Musharraf from court appearances in its next hearing on March 15.

The Lal Masjid operation was a 2007 government crackdown during Musharraf’s tenure on the controversial pro-Taliban mosque in Islamabad, which ended in a bloody eight-day siege killing at least 58 Pakistani troops and seminary students.

Army will not accept Musharraf's trial in case of Ghazi, and If he can be given exemption from appearing in courts, in this case, than why not others?

ISLAMABAD: Additional district and sessions judge Rafaqat Ahmed Khan Awan, who was killed in the terrorist attack on Monday, was about to complete the probationary period after which he would be confirmed as a judge in a couple of months.

Known for his liberal views, Awan was a young judge who had a year ago dismissed a petition that asked that an FIR be registered against former president Pervez Musharraf.

On April 24 last year, he dismissed a petition which was filed by the son of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rashid Ghazi who asked that an FIR be registered against former president Pervez Musharraf for launching the 2007 operation on the mosque.

Rejecting the petition, Awan observed that after a lapse of seven years the petition had simply been filed to gain cheap publicity.

He did his LLB in 1997 and got an internship in the chamber of former deputy attorney general Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri in 1998.

He then started practice as an independent lawyer but later went to Canada from where he returned about five years ago and started practicing in Islamabad.

In 2012, he passed the Islamabad Judicial Service examination and was appointed as an additional district and sessions judge. His two years probation was about to end.

In fact, minutes before his death, Awan was talking about his probation with the counsel of a school.

He had admitted the appeal of the school against a stay order that had been passed against the admission process in the school.

The stay was given on the petition of a lawyer who filed it after his children were denied admission by the management of the school.
