Everytime when westerners speak of Indian tourism, only thing that comes out of their mouth is the Taj Mahal. Is their not any Hindu monument close to the excellent architecture of the Islamic Taj Mahal?

Keep in mind that I'm only talking about Hindu architecture!

Brihadeeswara temple or Big temple - Tanjore
Lakshmi temple, Orchha
Konark sun temple
Puri Jagannath temple
Meenakshi temple
Akshardham temple
Shringeri temple, Karnataka

These are the few temples I could think of.

Thank you sir for posting names of the temples

.
Kajuraho (it is a lot more than the erotic sculptures)

Belur , halebed temples , Karnataka(mindblowing sculptural details)

Hampi (ruins of one of the greatest medieval empire)

Ajanta, Ellora caves( ancient buddhist, Hindu cave temples and paintings)

Jain temples of Mt.Abu

The only one I have ever heard of in India is the Taj Mahal.

Glad to be of little help.

The only one I have ever heard of in India is the Taj Mahal.

Among mughal architecture monuments I have seen, my personal preference is Itmad Ud Daula than Taj Mahal and is in Agra too and has beautiful stone inlay works and some say Taj Mahal is a copy of that structure.

No cure for ignorance?

Seriously though, the average person in the world hasn't heard of any of these.

I bet you haven't heard of many of our tourist attractions either.

Maharashtra is the most visited state by foreign tourists...and Taj Mahal ain't in Maharashtra...even no where near Maharashtra..

. . . .
I didn't know what Maharashtra is until I came here

Same here actually.

I wonder if the Indians know what Shandong and Heilongjiang are?

And a simple joe has never heard anything other than a fu***** wall of china.

Why are the Indians getting burned? What is wrong that your most well known landmark is of Muslim origin?

That is true. If you ask me about Chinese historical tourist places, I would say Xian Province(terrocotta warriors), Great wall of China and Forbidden city.
