As an Engineering student/Engineer I take offense at this statement :p

I have a mechanical engineering degree (1:1) and I am studying pharmacy and I'll tell you, pharmacy is much more demanding.
It just depends on the person.

(1:1)?

Yup if you do the vanilla engineering course, passing your subjects/units, Mech Engg is pretty darn easy.

However if you want a real education, an inquisitive brain is required. For example just one of the parts of one of the basic tenets of mechanisms is a topic that many people spend their lives studying (singularities in the 4-bar linkage).

It takes a different sort of mind altogether to be apply to apply these principles to real life situations.

An example in India, one of my uncles works for Coal India, he regularly interviews students who passed with honours and incredible marks from reputable universities in India. The same students when given a problem to solve that isn't from their textbooks show that they have almost no understanding of the theories of mechanical engineering.

Man, solving a mathematical qn and remembering pharma are different matter altogether. they involve separate part of brain. try remembering anti-arrhythmic chapter from Katzung. you will know.

Solving a mathematical equation!?! Anybody can memorise, it takes a different part of the brain altogether to understand.

Mate, your namesake the GSLV is a product of many scientists and engineers and can be considered the forefront of science in India.

Edit: I'm not claiming Pharmacy or Medicine is an easy area of study, it is far from such, my sister tried her hand at studying Medicine here in Australia but moved to her passion which is Law. She's told me about the unique challenges to being a medical student.

I am not saying that math is easy.actually it was my passion in my school days. had been to 2 state math Olympiad. loved math and physics thats why i am here in a defence forum. btw you can test and retest your theories in Engg. but not in medical science . one moment lost in diagn means a life lost.
