The actor says he had to cancel his participation in the Karachi literary festival starting February 5.
Non-issuance of a visa by the Pakistani government has led to the cancellation of actor Anupam Kher’s participation in the Karachi literary festival starting February 5.

Kher was one of the 18 Indians invited to the four-day festival by the organisers but he is the only one whose visa has not been cleared. The other 17 Indian participants have been given visas.

Kher, who has just been honoured with Padma Bhushan by the Indian government, was to participate in at least two sessions and his name figured prominently in the festival schedule.

Confirming that he has not been issued a visa, Kher told PTI here on Tuesday that he was very saddened by the development as he was looking forward to participate in the festival and use the platform to dispel misunderstandings in the minds of people there.

“We welcome their artistes in India. If there are objections to their performance at one place in India they are welcome at other places. But there is no reciprocity,” he said.

As to why his visa has not been issued, Kher said, “I wish I knew. I am wondering if it is because I am a Kashmiri Pandit or because of my views on the tolerance debate in India.”

Kher said the visa denial has left the festival organisers embarrassed and they have apologised to him.

What is the reason ? i can't understand.
He is quite nice gentleman after APS tragedy he wrote a quite emotional open letter. Praised by many.

Every time you commit a mindless act of terrorism, I die a little. Truth be told, I have been dying quite often of late; little by little.

I have died when bombs go off in civilian areas, when bystanders are held hostage, when airlines are hijacked, when defenceless people are killed and when the unarmed are sold as slaves.

But today, when you butchered over 130 children in cold blood in a school in Peshawar, I fear there is nothing left in me. I don’t know what your objective was, but you have certainly reduced me to a dead man walking.

What tenet of religiosity can you quote to justify such slaughtering of children? What twisted perception of which faith can you claim to adhere to? Does it require bravery to shoot barefaced children, innocents who do not understand the concept of conflict, much less the evil face of terrorism?

Killing children cannot be an act of faith in any religion. According to early reports, you are the same monsters who tried to kill Malala Yousufzai on October 9, 2012.

You did not kill her; her bravery won her the Noble Prizeearlier this month.

Words cannot adequately despise the monstrosity which you have committed. True, there have been greater pogroms in history such as Lidice, Dachau, the purges of Stalin, the Cultural Revolution of Mao, the killing fields of Cambodia. But these were political movements or results of conflict.

What you have done today is something not reflected in history; the slaughter of innocents.

I cannot ascribe a category to which you could possibly belong. Even animals kill for a reason; out of fear or hunger. But you let loose bullets out of senselessness. Truly, you are beyond evil.

Pictures of war and conflict often move me. Today it was different. I saw a picture of a father who had tied the shoelace of his son before he sent him to the ill-fated school.

'I have the shoe, but I have no son…’ he lamented.

I was not moved. I broke down.

Your dastardly act today will have united parents everywhere and earned you their curses. Time will prove that their curses will not have been in vain.

Could be security issues because he fares high on terrorist hit list..

This could be the reason because after APS as i mentioned above he wrote a quite emotional open letter. Quite possible that they may target him.

An Indian is an Indian is an Indian. No good should be expected from these folks.
Sir we can't generalize whole Indian population, i am working in UAE and i can say i met many Indian people who are exceptionally good and well balanced.

MUMBAI: Actor Anupam Kher said today that he was "sad and disappointed" that he was denied a visa by Pakistan to attend the Karachi literature festival. He says he has cancelled his visit.

"I am very sad and disappointed that out of 18 participants, 17 were given visa and I was denied," Mr Kher told the news agency ANI.

Pakistani officials claim that the veteran actor had not even applied for a visa.

"He has not submitted a visa application. Please check from him if he has any receipt," Pakistan High Commission spokesperson Manzoor Ali Memon told reporters.

The Karachi literature festival is to start on Friday.

Mr Kher, 60, was recently named for one of the country's top civilian awards, Padma Bhushan.

Their country their rules, no need to whine about it.
There is some misunderstanding because Pakistan high commission denies that they receive any visa application from the actor and asking if he have any receipt for visa application submission.
May be he don't want to go because of security reasons.

Probably a mix up, when it comes to paperwork. He'll probably get it, if he reapplies.
