Antony to visit Kyrgyzstan next week

Continuing with its policy of stepping up military and economic ties with Central Asian Republics, India will be dispatching defence minister A K Antony to Kyrgyzstan next week.

"Antony will be leaving for Bishkek on Monday. He will hold bilateral talks with his counterpart there to boost bilateral defence ties," said an official.

India has progressively strengthened its bilateral defence cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in the fields of military exercises, training, jungle warfare, information technology and counter-terrorism over the last few years.

India needs to set up military bases there to keep a check on sino-pak activities against india and central asia.

This might have to do something with Tajiks asking NATO to operate from the airbase which Indians built and are eyeing for a long time to be used as IAF airbase...
