Defence minister A.K. Antony has ordered his ministry to probe allegations of irregularities and manipulation of the evaluation process while picking the French company Dassault for the purchase of 126 fighter aircraft worth about Rs. 50,000 crore.
India had picked Dassault’s Rafale over the Typhoon of EADS, an European consortium.
Mr Antony took the decision after receiving a complaint from TD Rajya Sabha member M.V. Mysoora Reddy. Replying to Dr Reddy, Mr Antony said he had asked the MoD to examine all the points raised in the complaint.
In his complaint dated February 27, 2012, Dr Reddy had demanded an enquiry into the evaluation process that finalised the L-1 contractor for procurement of the MMRCA without looking into their efficiency and other aspects.
“The alleged manipulation of the evaluation process in picking the L-1 contractor, which resulted in a decision to procure 126 MMRCA, has raised serious apprehensions not only across the country but also worldwide. If a proper decision is not taken, the country’s credibility will be at stake,” Dr Reddy wrote.

Well, here we go again.

So this means they will delay this for couple of years. Good for us though. We need time to evaluate and build up a response to MMRCA.

in my opinion it will be good for the Indian to shift to the typhoon instead

impossibiru how can someone take such a long time to decide a jet fighter deal. 10years and counting :woot: India rocks for creating world records for delaying everything from construction to buying

This is another proof that antony is a pig and he cares for his image more then India.
Though the tendor has been delayed so far, when a opposition member brings in a alligation, its the duty of the concerned minister to order a probe to find out if his alligations are true, but that will not stop the tender where it is in its present form, the tender will go as per the course it is secduled.
This is how democracy has to work, and this is how it is working atleast in one department MoD because we have a honest man like Antony as its boss.

This probe will run simultaneously to the price negotiations and will unlikely interfere with the deal at all. The price negotiations are set to finish in August/September anyway. Sensible way of dealing with those trying to interfere in deals- shuts them up but doesn't really affect the deal. Similar thing was done with AW-101 for IAF which came to nothing but a token investigation shut everyone up.
