so why are the Chinese whining when indian commercial ships pass through 'South China' sea ??

China has no right to stop or complain on any Indian ship transverses through the SCS. If she makes any issues on that, it will a big international news and debates would last for weeks.

However any legitimate vessel of India goes into China's territorial water, permissions must be granted.

And the withdrawal was unilateral .... India never surrendered and was mobilizing for a long war.

PLA has no chance because they would have frozen to complete annihilation. And further, their non-military supplies which were actually routed from Calcutta pre-war were also getting exhausted.

Net net, china adventure achieved it's tactical goals (i.e. intruding into Indian territory), but failed in stategic goals (i.e. making Nehru make peace on china's terms). As I said, 1962 for us was a cheap way of knowing the treachery of chinse.

Yes, These countries can block the northern Arctic passage, because the entire passage falls within their maritime territory and exclusive economic zones. Also, the Arctic passage is not yet an international commercial sea route.
