Still world knows Bengali's because of Bengali's from West Bengal.
Still getting a job in West Bengal needs mandatory knowledge of Bengali with proficiency in writing. Exceptions are there in IT and some of the global conglomerates.
Most non Bengalis has adapted the language in some form or other.
Languages grow, rise and die. It is common all over the world. There is no need of protectionism for Bengali.
Only where I see problem is imposing it to others. Like in your case Urdu.
I protest the imposition of Hindi to non Hindi states, like exams where Hindi is the only vernacular language. This needs to go. We are one nation, one people.
@padamchen
I studied ICSE.
Hindi was not a choice subject.Sanskrit was there till 7th std.
Unless you plan to stay in West Bengal all your life, it would be helpful to know Hindi.
