New Delhi: The verbal war between the Thackerays and the Bihar community seems to have escalated further with more political voices across party lines joining to slam the Thackeray family.
After Nitish Kumar and Digvijay Singh, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav attacked the Thackeray family for their anti-Bihar remarks.
Stung by the remarks made by MNS supremo Raj Thackeray and his uncle and Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray on Bihar migrants, Lalu called the Thackerays infiltrators in Maharashtra.
Recently, reacting to Raj Thackeray's statements on migrants from Bihar, Digvijay Singh had said the Thackerays, too, were originally from that state. Citing 2008 militant attacks on Mumbai, Singh asked where was the Thackeray family hiding at that time.
Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday charged the Centre and Maharashtra government with failing to rein in Raj Thackeray for his threat to throw Biharis out of Maharashtra.
Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray had backed his estranged nephew Raj Thackeray on his stand against migrants from Bihar and said that Bihar's chief secretary had no business interfering in the action taken by Mumbai police to arrest a person accused of violence at Azad Maidan.
The MNS chief is facing flak from several quarters over his anti-Bihar remarks.
The controversy began with Raj's speech at a party conclave on Friday, when he said Biharis staying in Mumbai would be thrown out of the city if the Bihar government prevented the Mumbai police from entering the state to arrest suspects wanted in criminal cases in Maharashtra. Raj's rhetoric has raised the hackles of the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Janata Dal (United) with senior RJD member Ram Kripal Yadav demanding action against Raj.
A few cases have been filed against Raj. Recently, a case was filed against Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray, party executive president Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navanirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray for making inflammatory speeches against migrants from Bihar and its people.
