Pakistan cricket team may not play in the upcoming ICC World T20 if their government refuses security clearance to the team that is scheduled to travel to India for the tournament, according to a report in The Hindustan Times.
Another team might replace Pakistan at World T20 that begins on March 8, an Indian cricket administrator who attended an ICC meeting in Dubai last week told the newspaper on Tuesday.
"At the ICC board meeting, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan did inform that his side's participation in the event was subject to government clearance. There was no further discussion as far as I remember," the official told the HT.
Earlier, PCB chairman Shahryar Khan had hinted that the decision to play Pakistan's World T20 matches at Indian venues will only be taken after consulting with the government.
"We have told the ICC the decision is with the government and it's not just us who have to decide," Khan told reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday.
"We didn't say or propose playing the World T20 matches at neutral venue but someone at the ICC meeting said that if there are concerns over any extremist activity [at Pakistan matches] then neutral venues will be looked into," he told Pakistani media.
"Since it's an ICC event and not a bilateral series we have to play it but if the decision [by the government] is negative then maybe the ICC could say that our matches be held in neutral venues in Sri Lanka or United Arab Emirates, and we will be ready for that."
ICC allowed Pakistan two more days to name their squad after PCB sent a request on Monday. Pakistan can name its players by February 10.
Pakistan are scheduled play their league matches in World T20 in Kolkata, Dharamsala and Mohali. The semifinals are to be played in Mumbai and Delhi but if Pakistan finish among the last four, Delhi would host the game. The final will be played in Kolkata at Eden Gardens.
