Comilla, Jan 5 (bdnews24.com) - Citizens Committee candidate Monirul Haque Sakku has posted a landslide victory to become the first mayor of Comilla.

Sakku,bagged 65,577 votes, while his nearest rival Awami League-backed Afzal Khan got 36,471 votes in the maiden polls to the newly-formed city corporation on Thursday.


In the country's first-ever all-electronic voting machine (EVM) polls, 75.06 percent votes were cast, according to the Election Commission.

Sakku was apparently expelled from BNP for deciding to go ahead with the polls despite the EC's announcement to use EVM in all centres. BNP boycotted the election in protest against the use of voting machines and non-deployment of the army.

After winning Sakku told media that he wants to join BNP again.

One thing to be careful about this victory is that both Awami regime and Awami influenced election commission will try to use this result as shield for vote rigging in Dhaka city corporation election. On that note Awami regime already divided Dhaka City, thousand year old history, into two.

Nothing to be surprised as you know that silent majorities are hardly an ingredient of the formation of strong-repressive teeth. It is the political activist's infiltrating in Military, Judiciary, Executive and other important organs of state along with keeping streets are in their control, actually set the foundation of fascist regime's teeth sharpening scheme.
