At least three dead in shooting at NJ supermarket
Police report at least three people are dead after a gunman opened fire at a Pathmark grocery store in Old Bridge, NewJersey. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.

Updated at 8:49 a.m. ET: At least three people are dead, including the gunman, aftera shooting in a New Jersey supermarket Friday morning, according to NBC 4 New York and wire reports.

A law enforcement official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the shooting happened at just before 4 a.m. ET Friday inside the Pathmark grocery store in Old Bridge, N.J., a suburb about 25 miles from New York.
Authorities, who were called to the Pathmark, on Route 9, shortly after, said the person believed to be the shooter is among the dead.
One of the victims was an 18-year-old woman, a law enforcement official said. The gunman was 23-years-old. Both worked at the supermarket, Old Bridge Mayor Owen Henry said. Details about the other victim was unknown.

It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the shooting, but authorities said they believe the incident may have been a workplace shooting. It was also unknown if the gunman killed himself or was shot by authorities.
Law enforcement officials said the gunman was a former Marine and an Old Bridge resident. He worked at the store for about two weeks, Henry said.
Employees who were in the store at the timeof the shooting congregated later in the morning outside a TGI Friday's restaurant in the shopping center where the supermarketis housed.
The store was closed at the time. New JerseyTransit closed its nearby park-and-ride lot, the AP said.

News chopper footage showed heavily armed police on the ground outside the supermarket. Several windows also appeared to have been broken.
SWAT teams had set up a command post in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant.
The Pathmark opens to shoppers at 6 a.m. ETweekdays.
NJ Transit's Old Bridge Park 7 Ride is closed as the investigation continues. Buses will provide service.
