Another batch of Chinese medical supplies arrives in Pakistan
11-Apr-2020
A special plane of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) carrying medical aid from China arrived in Islamabad on Saturday, said Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). It was the second plane in two days.
Naghmana Hashmi, Pakistan's Ambassador to China confirmed the news. "PIA special plane with 50 donated ventilators, equip & PPEs (personal protective equipment) left Chengdu for Islamabad today. One plane of relief goods from Beijing went yesterday," said the ambassador on her Twitter.
According to NDMA, the supplies consist of ventilators, about 936kg of surgical masks, protective suits, safety lenses, thermometers, and 1720 kg of unstitched cloth for surgical gowns.
"The supply of goods that arrived from China will be sent out to all small-scale hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other provinces," NDMA Chairman Lt General Mohammad Afzal was quoted as saying.
The first PIA plane carrying shipment of resources from China arrived in Pakistan on Friday with supplies including medical equipment such as PCR testing kits, mobile X-ray machines, Chinese KN95 masks, disposable medical masks and water-impermeable surgical gowns.
Reports from Pakistan authorities showed that the total number of cases in Pakistan has surpassed 4,700 on Saturday with more than 190 fresh infections. The death toll from COVID-19 has reached 71.
