UID is a nice way to start and integration of all the financial services into it make it something like the SSN of the US. This will bring the whole structure into place and will be easier to identify if large wads of cash are held by someone...one earns to spend...this way it will be easier to track most of the cash. All these bills talk about indicting and judging the guy responsible for corruption...no one talks about getting the money back.

You are right about the usefulness of UID...However i am a little lost as to why you think Lokpal is of lesser use??? The biggest point of Lokpal is that there should be an independent investigation agency which should be outside the control of the govt. so that culprits who are part of teh govt. can be booked....Not sure how this bill is not going to be a game changes and help in curbing corruption...

Judiciary is their to resolve disputes and to interpret laws passed by Parliament but they do not have the power to investigate. That power is right now vested with the parliament. I don;t know what kind of Lok pal will be implemented, if Anna is going to have his way, it is going to steal the thunder from both parliament and judiciary.

So you think agency like CBI work's well the way it is working now i.e under the govt??? Ofcourse the biggest game changer in this bill is to break political control on investigation agencies...Unless and until you free them how on this earth you expect them to unearth corruption done by their master's??? Not sure where's the disconnect?? Are you suggesting that investigation agency's should remain under govt???

May be i don't understand it but why is it being termed as oligarchy??? I still don't get it if our judiciary is not oligarchy then how come Lok JanPal Bill??? Can you help??

You got me wrong. I am for Lok Pal but I am concerned about it becoming an Oligarchy, where the power rests with few people. I am OK with the Prime minister overseeing this institution. I am for the CBI becoming part of this investigative body.

Well Lokpal bill wants to bring in something like the ICAC in Hongkong. It is not possible for India where there are multiple parties and a huge number of politicians...having a committee for each and every corruption case and having a committee to over seeing that committee which has an other committee to to oversee it...this is going to go on and on....it is almost impossible to have something like this. According to POCA the person asking for a bribe and person giving it are both at fault. What if a third party complaint is launched and which act will he file it under? Where will the Lokpal bill be placed? There are lots of unanswered questions that have to be answered.....instead have a UID and bring all those large and humongous transactions that are to be done under scrutiny without prior information.

I would request people to refrain from making stupid personal attacks. Why not discuss what she has to say instead of discussing her?

I guess her message is that the way Anna demands were accepted sets a dangerous precedent and any one with a populist but dangerous agenda will take inspiration from this to push their own agendas. She may or may not be right here. I would like to think that the Indian population is much wiser than when she gives them credit for.

Even in this case, the only assurance that Anna has received is that the matter will be debated in parliament where the dangers and benefits will be debated. I fully trust the people who make our laws and the judiciary who implement them to come up with sufficient checks and balances to ensure that power doesn't get concentrated in the hands of one person or organisation.

Lets give the Jan Lokpal bill a chance. Let us hear both sides of the argument. That is what a large majority or the people who supported Anna wanted.
