Thats mechanical performance. Turkish Herons were upgraded with more powerful engines to carry more heavy payload.

Unless ANKA has 10.000 operational hours comparing it to Heron is waste of time (you should know this too 500).

These are same units.

1 gen thermals had detectors only in 1 row.
2nd gen have 4-10 rows of detectors
3nd gen have megapixel detectors.

The most powerful detector today has LITENING G4 - 1000x1000 pixels.


Its domestic, you need to get started from something. 576x7 array is not bad at all (as I said LANTIRN had only 180x1). And with time, when new detectors will be developed (i dont think it will take too much time) it can be upgraded.

That's what I thought about them as well. Because of having different type/generation detector technologies, The resolution levels are called with different pixel terms. I mean Comparison must be made between 2nd generation x 2nd generation. 576 x 7 is really impressive and great resolution level When It is compared with the equivalents. That's why It is demaned too much.

For exm. Elbit system's TADIR thermal system working same bandwidth 8-12µm with 300T, which is being offered for tanks, UAV's and Attack helicopters, has a resolution of 480x4, While AselFlir300T has 576x7... Most probably, Same system was offered to Turkey with Herons in 2000's.

Besides, New Flir E/O programs of Aselsan has all 3nd generation detectors.

Aselsan InP InGaAsP based QWIP detectors ranked in top 27 technological program and awarded with prize in 10th Technology competition of Tubitak.

As far as I know, QWIP detector development comleted in 2009-10.

IAI would never put Elbit's system. They are competitors.
