Harda: The situation in curfew-bound Cheepabad-Khirkiya town of Harda district remained tense on Friday, after which the district administration issued shoot-at-sight orders, as a precautionary measure.

"Though no untoward incident took place in the troubled town since curfew was imposed, the administration issued shoot-at-sight orders as a precautionary measure," Harda district's Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Varma told reporters.

A total of 30 persons were arrested for arson as well as stone-pelting and a case has been registered against them under Section 307 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the SP said.

The SP said that nearly 20 people, including six policemen suffered injuries in the violence which erupted after a domestic animal was found dead.

Additional forces from neighbouring districts and jawans of the Rapid Action Force and Special Armed Force (SAF) were deployed in the town and other sensitive places in the district.

He said that the situation is tense, but under control in the district, after the killing of a domestic animal in the town, sparked off stone-pelting and arson by a large number of people, who also set a number of shops and homes ablaze.

INDORE: A month after the dumping of a cow carcass triggered riots in Indore, Harda district in Madhya Pradesh was again sitting on tinderbox after slaughtered remains of an animal were found near a pond. Mobs ran amok in Khirkiya-Chipabad area of Harda and the district administration clamped prohibitory orders to curb violence. But when this failed to douse fires, an indefinite curfew was imposed at Khirkiya town in the evening.

"Prohibitory orders have been issued and entire Khirkiya town has been put under indefinite curfew to control the violence. Police are patrolling the area round the clock to bring back normalcy," Harda district collector Rajnish Srivastav and superintendent of police Dipak Verma told TOI over phone.

Sparks began flying after residents spotted a cow carcass dumped near a pond in Khirkiya-Chipabad area at around 11 am. Soon, a team of Harda police rushed to the spot and detained three people. But the swift arrests didn't calm frayed nerves. Mobs pelted stones at policemen and set ablaze a motorcycle. A few cops suffered injuries in the attack.

The injured included two police officers, ASP Malay Jain and SDOP C Herald. A head constable suffered head injuries, but is out of danger. Two villagers were also injured in the stone pelting. The mob didn't stop there. The rampaging crowd damaged vehicles, including police and fire brigade van, besides setting ablaze a fruits and scrap dealer's shop.

With the cops outnumbered, the crowd had a free run. The mobsters went to Kheda village, one km away, and set ablaze more than 10 houses. Residents of the minority-dominated area fled their homes fearing a backlash. Unable to control the violence, the local administration clamped indefinite curfew in the entire Khirikiya town spread over 5-10 km.

Communal violence had last erupted in Timrani area of Harda in 2001 and since then the district has hardly had any history of major communal flare up. District officials said with a large police force from Harda deployed in chief minister's Jan Ashirvad Yatra in Betul, it was difficult to control the riots.

Communal tensions were stoked in Indore's Chandan Nagar area on August 20, following the dumping of a cow carcass near a place of worship. Around 45 people were injured in the violence. But just 150 km away in Harda, the police again failed to take lessons and waited for five hours before clamping curfew.

Bhai the riots record is heavily stacked against non BJP ruled states. Now when convenient digvijay type people say that's because BJP when in power does not indulge in riots but when convenient blame the BJP state when a riot occurs.

So instead of passing sweeping statements, it should be seen case by case. And while this riot seems to have been started by hindus a substantial no are started by muslims because they found an Arabic paper on the streets, because bush came to india or because something happened in Burma or because some terrorist was sentenced in BD etc etc.

All in all what I'm saying is that while you can sometimes say BJP has failed, guys like samajwadi have always played communal politics and for congress everything is kosher, even crying for terrorists.

If India is a secular republic and MP is a part of the union doesn't it mean that MP is bound to follow the principle of the constitution?If so shouldn't Muslims have the right to practice their religion and eat whatever they want?

Those reasons are valid reasons. Hindus also commit violence for those same reasons. Forgot Shiv Sena ? MNS ? They too commit violence if some bhagwan picture is drawn on shoes, if some movie shows anything against their gods.
What I am saying is, people do have a right to protest. But they should not indulge in violence during protests, as is common with both hindus & muslims.
